How Delve measures transportation emissions

Measuring transportation carbon emissions associated with vehicle miles traveled, mode share and parking demand.

Updated over a year ago

Transportation emissions account for the greenhouse gas emissions attributed to each mode of travel. Modes that consume fuel, like automobiles and buses, have corresponding fuel efficiencies and emissions factors. Modes that rely on human power, like cycling and walking, have no emissions.

How are transportation emissions calculated?

Transportation emissions factor in distances traveled, mode, fuel efficiency, and emissions factor. Delve combines distance and trip counts with site population and regional emissions data to estimate the tCO2e emitted annually to meet the site’s transportation needs. Modes with no emissions, like cycling and walking, are excluded from this calculation.

Where the user elects to use reduced parking, Delve assesses the site for the potential to shift automobile use to other, more sustainable, modes of transportation. This results in lower overall transportation emissions.
