The Ai Skin Scan: complete guide

End-to-end guide on the Dermis Ai skin scan imaging assessment

Your always-on lead machine. A patient taps your link, takes a selfie, answers five quick questions, and instantly gets a personalised AI skin analysis — while you capture them as a fully-profiled lead and follow up automatically.

1. What the Skin Scan is

  • Every clinic gets one branded Skin Scan page. It lives at a link you can share anywhere — social bios, DMs, QR codes, your website, and paid ads.

  • It’s fully branded to your clinic: your logo, brand colour, clinic name, treatment menu and pricing. Even the link preview (when it’s shared on WhatsApp or texted) shows “{Your Clinic} — AI Skin Scan” with your logo.

  • It runs clinical-grade AI skin analysis on a single selfie and returns a detailed, visual report the patient actually wants to see — which is what makes them hand over their contact details.

  • It works as a standalone lead-capture tool and as the destination for your paid ads.

2. The patient journey, step by step

Everything happens on one page — the patient never gets bounced around, and progress is saved if they refresh. Here’s the full flow for a standard scan:

  1. Branded link preview. When your link is shared, it unfurls with your clinic name and logo, so it looks like it came from you, not a generic tool.

  2. Intro screen. A short “before → after” preview slider with the headline “What could aesthetic treatments look like on you?” Button: See My Preview.

  3. The questions (5 total). Quick and tap-friendly, with your first-time offer credit (e.g. “Get £25”) floating on the progress bar:

    1. Have you had aesthetic treatments before? No, I’m new to this / Yes, a few times / Yes, I’m experienced

    2. What’s your age? — number entry

    3. What are your top concerns? — pick at least 2: Fine Lines & Wrinkles, Under-Eye Hollows, Acne and Scarring, Redness, Age Spots, Rosacea, Sagging & Jowls, Skin Texture

    4. How would you describe your skin?Dry / Oily / Combination / Sensitive / Normal

    5. What outcome matters most to you?Prevention / Correction / Healthy glow / Subtle results

  4. Selfie consent. A required consent checkbox covering biometric processing and the right to request deletion — this keeps you compliant.

  5. Guided face capture. Not a plain camera — the patient is guided through framing and lighting for a clean, analysable selfie. (Note: in-app browsers like Instagram or TikTok block the camera, so those visitors are prompted to open the link in a normal browser — worth knowing if you post the link in your IG bio.)

  6. “Analysing” screen. A short, reassuring loader while the AI works.

  7. Reveal / contact capture. Framed as unlocking the result: “Your beauty score is ready.” The patient enters First name, Last name, Email and Phone (with a country dial-code selector). Button: Reveal my beauty score. Numbers can optionally be verified by a 6-digit SMS code. This is the moment they become your lead.

  8. Beauty Score reveal. Their photo inside an animated score ring showing their “Now” score vs their “Potential” score, a “Top X% of your age group” badge, and a personalised AI Insight that addresses them by first name.

  9. Detailed assessment. The full report (see next section), recommended treatments from your menu, and a booking call-to-action pinned to the bottom the whole time.

  10. “Preview on my face.” The patient can generate an AI “after” image of themselves and drag a before/after slider — a powerful conversion moment. That image is saved to their lead profile, so you see it too.

After the scan, they’re also emailed a “View full results” link so they can reopen their report on any device.

3. What the AI actually analyses

From one selfie, the report includes:

  • Beauty Score (1–100) and a Potential Score (what’s achievable).

  • Skin age, perceived age and eyes age, plus skin tone and skin type.

  • A written, personalised AI Insight.

  • A visual, swipeable skin breakdown across up to 11 metrics — Redness, Uniformness, Dark circles, Hydration, Pigmentation, Lines, Sagging, Pores, Translucency, Acne, and Under-eye puffiness. Each gets a 0–100 score, a colour-coded rating (Great / Good / Average / Poor), and a heat-map overlay on the patient’s own photo showing exactly where the concern is. Cards are sorted worst-first, so the biggest opportunities lead.

  • Concerns flagged as mild, moderate or pronounced.

  • Recommended treatments, each with a “why this is relevant to you” explanation — matched to your own treatment menu and pricing.

  • If the AI spots something that looks potentially medical, it flags a referral rather than giving cosmetic advice.

4. What happens the moment a patient finishes

As soon as a scan is submitted, the lead is captured and your follow-up engine kicks in automatically:

  • You get notified instantly — an SMS to your phone (with a link to the lead’s card) and an email with their full profile attached.

  • Automated WhatsApp / SMS follow-up — your AI assistant reaches out on the lead’s preferred channel to answer questions and drive a booking. You control this under Outreach settings (see §7).

  • An AI phone call — about 20 seconds after they finish, an AI appointment-setter can call the lead while they’re still holding their phone, opening on their actual scan result and offering your soonest real calendar slots. Leads already booked or opted-out are skipped, and no one is called twice.

  • The lead appears in your dashboard under Conversations, with everything you need: scan metrics, flagged concerns, recommended treatments, their before/after preview image, contact details, and which ad or campaign they came from.

Booking happens inside the scan — the patient never leaves the page. If you’ve connected a calendar they pick a real slot; if not, they leave their availability or are sent to your booking link. You can also require a deposit (charged to your own Stripe) to lock in serious bookings.

5. Running paid ads to your Skin Scan

You can launch Meta (Facebook + Instagram) ads straight from the dashboard under Conversations → Campaigns:

  1. Connect Meta — link your Meta account so we can run and manage ads and read your results. Ads run under your own Facebook Page and Instagram identity.

  2. Launch New Campaign — set an optional first-time patient discount (percentage or fixed amount, tied to a specific treatment), your daily budget, your creative (image or video), and your ad copy: Primary text, Headline, Description (pre-filled with sensible defaults you can edit).

  3. The ad points straight at your Skin Scan. Every click lands on your scan page with the campaign baked into the link, so every lead is automatically attributed to the exact campaign and ad that produced it.

Conversion tracking: your scan fires a Page View when it loads and a Lead event when a patient submits their details — reported directly into your own Meta account. This is what lets Meta optimise toward people who actually become leads. (The Meta Pixel/dataset ID is connected on the back end — reach out to support if you need it set or changed.)

6. How it turns into a “landing page” (offer mode)

This is the part clinics ask about most, so it’s worth being precise: there is no on/off switch that swaps your scan for a landing page. Instead, the page adapts automatically based on the ad that sends traffic to it.

  • Run an ad without a discount (or share the plain link): the page opens straight into the interactive Skin Scan.

  • Run an ad with a first-time discount / voucher: the same page automatically becomes an offer landing page. This “offer mode” changes the experience in three important ways:

  1. It leads with the offer, not the quiz. The patient first sees a full offer page — the treatment, the discounted price struck through against the regular price, a real before/after gallery, your clinic’s phone, address and a map, a held-spot countdown, and a Claim Offer button.

  2. It captures the lead immediately. They enter their name and phone before the scan — so even if they don’t finish the assessment, you still get the lead in your Conversations. These early opt-ins also trigger an instant “new lead” alert and the AI call.

  3. Then it runs the assessment + selfie, and the results are reframed around your specific offer — “How {treatment} can help” tied to their flagged concern and the introductory price — ending on Claim your slot.

In short: the discount on your ad is what turns your Skin Scan into a lead-first offer landing page. Same link, same page — it just adapts.

Tip

Because a discount ad captures the lead up front, discount campaigns tend to collect more leads (including people who don’t finish the scan), while the plain scan collects fewer but more-engaged leads who’ve seen their full result. Use whichever fits your goal.

7. Where and what you can edit from the dashboard

Your Skin Scan editor is at App Builder → My Channels → Skin Scan. It shows a live phone preview on the left and editable cards on the right. Here’s everything you can change, and where.

A. In the Skin Scan editor: App Builder → My Channels → Skin Scan

Your link card — copy your public scan URL.

Branding card:

  • Logo size — a 60%–150% slider for how large your logo appears at the top of the scan.

  • Background theme — White, Cream or Slate.

  • Headline font — the font used for question headlines.

  • Content font — the font used for body text.

First-time patient offer card:

  • Offer amount — the credit shown throughout the scan (e.g. “£25 towards your first treatment”).

  • Appointment-booking bonus — “Book within X minutes, get a boosted credit” with an on/off toggle. Powers the urgency countdown and the “Call now” instant-booking option.

  • Booking deposit — require a deposit (e.g. £25) to book, credited toward treatment. (Requires a connected Stripe account — set up under Settings → Payouts.)

  • Booking link — where the scan’s “claim offer” button sends patients if you don’t use a connected calendar.

  • Results disclaimer — custom text under the results (leave blank for the default).

B. Logo, brand colour & fonts: App Builder → My Channels → Patient App → Branding

Your scan’s logo and brand colour are shared with your Patient App and synced automatically, so you set them here:

  • App icon and Raw logo (the logo that appears on the scan)

  • Brand colour (becomes the scan’s accent and button colour)

  • Greeting text colour

  • Font (HK Grotesk, DM Sans, Gordita, Avenir, Gotham, TT Interphases)

  • Home screen banner image

C. Treatments, images & pricing: App Builder → Products

The recommended treatments shown in the scan results come from your Products catalogue. Add or edit a product — its name, image, price, indications and before/after results — and it automatically becomes part of what the AI recommends and what patients see on the results screen.

D. Ads: Conversations → Campaigns

Connect Meta and launch or manage campaigns (discount, budget, creative, ad copy, identity) — see §5.

E. Add the scan to your website: Conversations → Deploy → Website

Build an embeddable promo banner that links to your scan, with an editable layout, colour, headline, subtext and button label, then copy the embed code (or have it emailed) to drop onto your existing website.

F. Calendar & booking: Conversations → Integrations

Connect Google Calendar for two-way booking sync and pick which calendar holds availability, so the scan can offer patients your real open slots.

G. Account settings: Settings

  • Domain — connect a custom domain so your scan runs on your own web address (we show you the DNS records to add).

  • Notifications — toggle new-lead and new-sale alerts.

  • Payouts — connect Stripe (needed for the booking deposit).

H. Automated follow-up: Conversations → Outreach settings

  • Turn AI Outreach on or off (all automated text / WhatsApp follow-up to leads).

  • Reduce outreach frequency for a lighter touch.

  • Buy a phone number so follow-ups send from your own local number instead of the shared Dermis number.

8. What you can’t edit yourself

To keep the scan converting and compliant, a few things are fixed. If you need any of these changed, or help connecting a custom domain, just reach out to support.

  • The five quiz questions and answer options, the intro copy, and the results layout.

  • The contact-form fields (name, email, phone) and the biometric-consent wording.

  • The scan’s cover / hero photo.

  • The Meta Pixel / dataset ID connection.

  • There is no “landing page vs. scan” toggle — offer mode is driven by your ad’s discount (see §6).
