How can I configure a coupon for single-item discounts and specific conditions?
Configuring a coupon to apply discounts to a single item while meeting specific conditions, such as targeting certain customer groups or limiting usage to specific stores, requires understanding the system's capabilities and limitations. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you achieve this.
Overview of Coupon Configuration
Coupons in Diller can be customized to meet various business needs, including:
Applying discounts to specific items or categories.
Targeting specific customer groups.
Limiting usage to certain stores.
However, some configurations, such as automatically applying a discount to one arbitrary item, may require workarounds due to 3rd party system limitations.
3rd party system limitations
Automatic single-item discounts: Only some POS systems support automatic rules for applying a discount to one arbitrary item in a purchase.
Targeting members: Coupons can be limited to the "Member" level only, but customers do not receive a level until after their first purchase. This can exclude newly joined members who haven’t made a purchase yet. So for a welcome coupon it should not be limited to a member-level.
Workarounds for Single-Item Discounts
To apply a discount to a single item, consider the following approaches:
1. Manual Approach
If your POS do not support the use of ProductIDs on the coupon then set the coupon discount to 0% so it applies with no automatic discount at checkout.
During checkout, staff can manually apply the desired discount (e.g., 25%) to the chosen item.
2. Category-Restriction Approach
Limit the coupon to specific product categories by using product group IDs from your POS system. Only supported by some POS integrations.
The coupon will apply once per line item. If the coupon is set to single-use, only one item in the allowed categories will receive the discount.
Note: If multiple items in the allowed categories are purchased, the system will not control which specific item gets discounted. Test with a trial coupon to ensure it works as intended. Each POS can behave differently depending on their integration with Diller.
Guidelines for Targeting Specific Customer Groups
Avoid limiting coupons to the "Member" level only to ensure newly joined members can also use the coupon.
Steps for Limiting Coupons to Specific Stores
To restrict a coupon to certain stores/departments:
Create a new store/department list that includes the desired stores/departments.
Assign the coupon to that list.
By following these guidelines and workarounds, you can effectively configure coupons to meet your specific business requirements while navigating system limitations.
