In this getting started guide, we will walk you through how to set up your Duet studio, set up how much students will pay you, add students to your Students List, and how to set up online payments.

Before getting started, below is some information you should have ready.

Your Studio Information

You will want to have handy information such as the name of your business/studio, a logo, email, and physical address.

Your Rate Packages

Have a list of all the ways in which you charge your students. For example:

  • Beginner Piano students $40.00 per lesson

  • Choir Club is $200.00 per month

These are called your Rate Packages in Duet. You need to assign a Rate Package to a student before you can add them into your Students List.

Names and Who Will Be Paying

The first thing you want to do is make a list of all the students who are taking lessons from you. You will need to note whether the student will be paying for their own lessons or someone else will.

Note: If someone else will be paying for lessons, then you will be filling out the Add Student form differently.

Basic Information

Have some or all of the following information ready. If you don't have all of the information that is OK. Most of the requested information in the forms is optional, but usually good to have.

  • Full name of the student and/or person who will be paying.

  • Email, physical address, phone number of student and/or person who will be paying.

  • Birthdate of student. [optional]

  • Instrument you are teaching the student. [optional]

  • The students skill level (such as beginner or advanced). [optional]

  • Photo of student. [optional]

  • Skype ID of student. [optional]

Create Student/Parent Account Information

Students and parents can also have their own Duet accounts where they access your studio information. But you need to create these accounts for them in your studio set up. You can, at this time, come up with a username and password for each person. Or you can do this later.

Instructions, later on in this guide, will show you how and where to create these accounts.

Online Payment Options

If you want to take online payments through your Duet account, you can. Duet accepts three online payment platforms:

  • Stripe

  • Authorize.net

  • PayPal

If you have any of those accounts set up, you will need to access them to get a couple of pieces of information. Instructions, later on in this guide, will let you know what information that is and where to find it.

A Few More Things

Do the Sections in Order

This guide is broken up into 4 sections. Do each section in order. This is because there are some settings you need to set up before other features. For example, in order to add students you need to assign them a rate package. Thus, you need to create rate packages before you can add students.

You Don't Need to Go Through Each Article in Its Entirety

An example of this is section 2: Create Rate Packages. You do not need to go through the Create Per Week Rate Package section if you won't be charging per week.

Let's get started.
