About This Tutorial

Now that your student is added, you can fill out more information about them. If you haven't added your student yet, go to this article: Add Your Students: Step 1

This tutorial will walk you though how to add your student's address, create a login and password for them, upload a photo of them, and more.

If you wish to skip around you can click on any of the titles in the Table of Contents and you will be taken directly to that section.

Go to Your Student's Edit Area

The first thing you need to do is go to your Students List. Once there you can follow along with the rest of this tutorial.

  1. Go to Students > Students List

You will be taken to your list of students.

  2. Click on the name of the student whose information you want to go into. In this case it is Frederic Chopin.

You are now in the student's edit area.

Add an Email Address

Next, you can add your student's email address. To do so:

  1. Click in the Email field and type in your student's email address.

This email address is used to send invoices and lesson notes to the student.

    Upload a Photo

Next, you can upload a photo of your student. To upload a photo:

    1. Click on the Upload Image text.

  2. Choose the photo you want to upload, and then click on the Open button.

Your student's photo is now uploaded.

Add a Phone Number

You can add a contact phone number. Do the following:

  1. At the Phone field type in your student's contact number. The other two fields (type of number and carrier) are optional.

If you want to add another number, click on the +Add phone number text.

Add in Your Student's Address

Next, you will come across the address fields. The address will show up in the invoices you create for the student.

  1. Fill in the the Country, Street, Apt/Suite, and/or State/Province fields to add in your student's address.

Create Your Student's Username and Password

In order for your student to have a Duet account, you need to create it. Right under the address fields is a place for you to create your student's username and password.

  1. Create a Username. This name can be anything you want. In this case we will use "musicMasterChopin".

Note: If the name is already in use Duet will let you know when you go to save the form.

  2. Create a password. Type in the same word in both the New Password and Verify Password fields.

The only password rule is that they are case sensitive. For example, "mypassword" is different from "MyPassword". Otherwise, there are no other rules on what the password can be.

Add in Your Student's Birthday

If you wish to celebrate your student's birthdays, you can have Duet give you a reminder when that day arrives or automatically send your student a birthday greeting.

  1. Click on the down arrows of each field. The order, from left to right of each field, is: month, day, year.

When the month of your student's birthday arrives, you will see a reminder for it on your dashboard.

You will also be given a reminder on your calendar.

Add a Skype ID

If you plan on meeting with your student online using Skype, put in your student's Skype ID. What this does is give you the option to start the Skype meeting from the lesson(s) on your calendar.

Note: In Skype, it is called your Skype Name, not Skype ID.

  1. Ask your student, or their parent, for their Skype ID/Name.

  2. Copy and paste their Skype Name into the Skype ID field.

Once you have your student's Skype ID/Name saved you will see the button "Start Skype Call" in your calendar lessons for that student.

Add in What School Your Student Goes To

If you want to keep track of what school your student is currently going to, add that information. To add in the school, do the following:

  1. Click in the School field and type in the name of their school.

Choose a Time Zone

Next, you will see an area to choose which time zone your student lives in.

  1. At the Time Zone field, click on the down arrow and select the time zone your student lives in.

Add a Note About Your Student

You can add in some private notes about the student in the Notes field. This is only visible to you. To add notes:

  1. Click in the Notes field, and type away.

Your Student's Status

Next, you will see the student's status field. It has already been filled in from when you filled out the short form in the previous tutorial.

You don't need to do anything here, unless you want to change the student's status. In this case we will be keeping the status as is.

Choose Which Instrument(s) Your Student Will Be Learning

Next, you will see the Instruments field. Here is where you choose which instrument(s) you are teaching your student.

To choose which instrument(s), do the following:

  1. Click inside of the Instrument field.

In this case we will choose Piano.

If you need to add an instrument that is not in the drop down box, do the following:

    1. Click on the + Add Instruments text.

    2. Click on the box next to the instrument you want to add. In this case we will add the Banjo.

    3. Click on the Add Selected button to add it.

Now both instruments show up in the Instruments field.

Add a Skill Level

Now we are at the Skill level field. This is where you can put what level your student is at. Such as beginner, intermediate, or advanced. You can type in whatever you want.

To add a skill level:

  1. Click in the Skill level field and type in what you want. In this case we will say Chopin is a beginner.

Your Student's Rate Package

Lastly, you will see the student's rate package field. It has already been filled in from when you filled out the short form in the previous tutorial.

You don't need to do anything here, unless you want to change the student's rate package. In this case we will be keeping it as is.

Save This Form

When you are all done, it is time to save this form. Do the following:

  1. Click on the Save Student button, located at the bottom of the form.

Once you click on the Save Student button, you are taken back to your Students List. Notice how Chopin's listing has changed since you filled in more information. He now has a phone number, a skill level, and his photo.

Here is a before screenshot for comparison.
