Pull

In swimming, "pull" refers to a drill where a pull buoy is used to isolate the arms during the freestyle stroke.

Description

The pull buoy is a buoyant device placed between the swimmer's legs to provide extra buoyancy, which helps align the body in a streamlined position. This allows the swimmer to focus solely on arm movement and build upper body strength. During the pull drill, a high elbow catch is emphasized to maximize propulsion and ensure efficient forward motion.

Key Points

  • Maintain Body Position: Keep your hips high and maintain a streamlined body position throughout the drill.

  • Straight Arm Pull: Pull in a straight line, aligned with your shoulder, to maximize efficiency.

  • High Elbow Catch: Focus on initiating the pull phase with a high elbow catch, which helps in propelling forward effectively.

Note

If you are unable to perform the drill due to lack of equipment or comfort level, practice freestyle focusing on these key points to improve your technique.
