What are the differences between a physical card and a virtual card?
Updated over a week ago

At Edenred+, your employees choose their preferred payment method directly from their app. Meanwhile, you can top up their benefits!

👉 What is a virtual card?

A virtual card uses contactless technology to operate the same way as a physical card. It is simply stored in their smartphone wallets instead of their physical wallets. This card is completely free, you pay nothing for it!

We recommend that your employees choose a virtual card. Here are 5 reasons to convince them:

  • They can activate it immediately, as soon as they log in to the Edenred+ app for the first time.

  • 🌳 They choose a plastic-free alternative that is more environmentally friendly.

  • 🏠 They can leave their physical wallet at home and only take their phone.

  • 🧑‍💻 They can pay online 100% securely, just like with a physical card.

  • 📱 They pay contactless for their purchases in-store, no need for a PIN!

👉 What is a physical card?

A physical card is a PVC card that your employees receive in their letterboxes. They can order it directly from their Edenred+ app and delivery takes between 5-10 working days.

At Edenred+, we use a new eco-design model for our cards, which are made from 85% recycled material from industrial waste. With this choice, we are promoting the circular economy by reusing plastic waste to create the raw material for our cards.

And because our cards are designed to be used by everyone, we've also added a Braille symbol for more inclusivity.

💡 The total cost of a physical card includes both the production cost and shipping costs. Your company covers the cost of manufacturing and shipping each physical card issued to each employee.
