how to access edgeful AI

where to find edgeful AI — the ask edgeful AI side panel on every page and the full edgeful AI screen — how to start a new chat, and how to navigate your conversation history.

finding edgeful AI

there are two ways to open edgeful AI, and they're a little different.

the side panel — on every page. click ask edgeful AI in the top-right corner of any page (reports, the screener, what's in play, discovery — everywhere) and a chat panel slides out. it's built for quick questions without leaving the page you're on. on a report page, and on data pages like the screener, what's in play, discovery, and the algo template catalog, the side panel also picks up your current context automatically — the page you're on and its key settings show up as a chip in the message box (for example, wip · futures · new york), so the AI answers against what's on your screen — the rows, readings, or results you're looking at — without you having to restate it. remove the chip with its × if you'd rather ask a general question. the side panel is chat only — it doesn't include the Analyze Reports flow. it does keep your history, though: on open it shows your three most recent chats, and a searchable history panel lets you find and continue any past conversation without leaving the page — so you can pick up right where you left off.

the full edgeful AI screen. for everything else, open the dedicated edgeful AI screen from the left sidebar, at the same level as reports, WIP, and the screener. it has two tabs: analyze (chat, Analyze Reports, saved runs, and the data tables) and build (custom reports and custom indicators). you can also jump straight there from the side panel by clicking open in edgeful AI at the top.

no setup required either way. there's nothing to configure before your first use — open it and you're in.

what you see when you open it

when you open the full edgeful AI screen, you'll see a suggested prompts panel — a set of example questions to get you oriented on what the AI can help with. these are a good starting point if you're new to it.

below the suggested prompts is the chat input. type your question and hit enter.

starting a new chat

to start a fresh conversation, click the New Chat button. this clears the current conversation and opens a blank session with the suggested prompts ready again.

use this when you want to shift topics — for example, finishing a research session on NQ and starting fresh with a question about GC. keeping conversations focused on one topic tends to produce better results than mixing multiple questions into the same thread.

returning to previous conversations

edgeful AI saves every chat, and titles each one automatically from your first message — so your history reads as a list of recognizable topics instead of a stack of untitled sessions. your history lives in the conversation sidebar on the left of the full edgeful AI screen, alongside new chat, search chats, your saved custom reports, usage details, settings, and preferences.

the sidebar collapses. click the toggle next to the edgeful AI title to fold it away and give the chat the full width of the screen, and click it again to pin it back open.

when it's collapsed you don't have to reopen it to find something. hover the toggle and the sidebar slides out over the page, so you can scan your history and click straight into a conversation. move the cursor away and it tucks itself back. your current chat sits underneath the whole time and doesn't move, which is the point: you can check what an earlier session was about without losing your place in this one.

once you've built up a long history, reach for search chats instead of scrolling the list.

managing what the AI remembers

edgeful AI keeps a memory of your preferences — the tickers and sessions you trade, how you like answers formatted — so it carries across chats instead of starting cold each time. it lives in preferences in the edgeful AI left nav, and you can view, edit, or remove anything it's saved there at any time. for the full picture, see how edgeful AI remembers you.

plan access

edgeful AI is available on every plan. no upgrade required to use it.

usage limits

edgeful AI comes with 6 million tokens per month. tokens are consumed each time you ask the AI a question or run an Analyze Reports flow — every query, every follow-up. 6M covers a lot of normal research use; most members don't come close to the cap.

your token count resets on your subscription renewal date — not at the start of the calendar month. if your renewal is on the 21st, tokens refresh sometime on the 21st.

checking your current usage

your remaining token count is in usage details in the conversation sidebar. keep an eye on it if you're running a lot of Analyze Reports flows back-to-back, since each flow consumes more tokens than a single chat message.

need more tokens?

if you've hit your monthly limit and need to keep going, reach out through the chat widget in edgeful and ask. resets are done manually by the team, so there's no self-service top-up — but asking is the right move, and it's faster than sitting out the rest of your billing month.

the message you'll see when you're out reads "There aren't enough tokens remaining to generate this custom report safely. Try again after your usage resets." that's the monthly allowance talking — not a problem with your prompt, your report or your account. it points you at your reset date, but you don't have to wait for it.

token usage is still under review while the newer AI features settle in — the custom report builder, the report analyzer, and the API connection into edgeful AI all draw on the same allowance — so how much the allowance stretches may change. if you're burning through it faster than you expect, the habits in edgeful AI under "how to conserve your tokens" make the biggest difference.
