Getting the fields 'Pack Type', 'Pack Quantity', 'Single Unit Type', 'Single Item Volume or Weight' and 'Unit of Measure' correctly are important for costings in recipes to be correct and accurate stocktakes.
As a rule of thumb if a product is going to be used in a recipe (e.g. paper cups, sugar) 'Single Item Volume or Weight' and 'Unit of Measure need' to be used for the quantities you’ll use in the recipe.
Below you'll find some common examples to help guide you on setting these.
Example One - Paper Cups
In this example you get 500 cups in a box. The cups will be used in the recipe for hot drinks, as such the setup is as follows:
If this product contains sleeves of cups (e.g. 10 sleeves of 50) these would be added as Alternative Units of Measure Type so sleeves can be used during stocktakes.
Example Two - Eggs
In this example you order a crate of eggs. Within a crate the eggs come in packs of a dozen. There are 14 dozen eggs in total. As the eggs will be used within the recipe the exact number of eggs should be inputted in the 'Single Item Volume or Weight' field like this:
Example Three - Bottles of Oil
In this example there is an extra level which has to be inputted as the product that is ordered is a Case and within the case there are multiple Bottles, it is then the ml/l of the oil that's used in recipes. As such the setup would be as follows:
