Master Product is a way to group similar/the same products from different suppliers as one overall "product".
Master Product groups will be visible on your COGs reports - Making it easier to look at your costs and variances for a group of products, rather than analysing costs/variances for individual items across your reports.
For example - You may wish to group all of your Packaging that you purchase from different suppliers into one Master "Packaging" group - In order to view the overall costs of all of your packaging together in your reports (rather than pick out the costs of each individual packaging item).
How to create a Master Product group
To create a master product grouping:
1. Head to your Suppliers & Products tab, then head to the Master Product tab.
2. In the top right hand corner, click the "Create Master Product" button.
Enter the master product Name, Class & Category (optional), and the Unit of Measure for the product.
3. Once you've created your Master Product group, it should appear in your master product tab.
Adding/Removing products to a Master Product Group
To add a product to a Master Product group:
1. Head to your Suppliers tab, and browse through your Supplier's product lists to find the product you'd like to add to the master group.
2. Once you've found a product you'd like to add, click the "Edit" button next to it to open the product information.
3. You should see the "Master Product" field - Click and use the drop down to assign this product to the Master Product group. Make sure to "Save Changes" when you've finished.
This product will now be assigned and visible in the Master Product Group! You can repeat this process and continue to add as many products to your master group as you wish.
❌ To remove a product from your Master Product group - simply follow the same steps above, and instead clear the Master Product field.
How to view/edit your Master Product Group settings
If you need to view, edit or delete the master group - You can head to the Master Products tab, and click "View Details".
Here, you can view and change the Master Product Group Name, Unit of Measure (how you would count the products), Class and Category (these tags appear in your COGs reports).
Master Product FAQ's
I am receiving an error while trying to add my product to a master product group
Make sure that the product's Unit of Measure is the same as what you've set up in the master group.
Ie. If the master product group is set up with a Unit of Measure of "grams" - Make sure the product you're trying to add to it also is set up with "grams" in it's Unit of Measure field.
