Recipes in Command Centre

Summary

Command Centre can create a recipe, change one you already have, or swap one product for another across every recipe that uses it. Each change arrives in a workspace showing the cost per portion, and nothing is saved until you approve it.

Recipes are costed from the products you buy, so the products need to be in Edify first. To add them, see Suppliers and products in Command Centre.

For how workspaces work, see Command Centre: getting started.

Create a recipe

Tell Edify the dish and how many it makes, and it drafts the recipe with each ingredient matched to a product you buy and a cost per portion. Nothing exists until you select Create recipe in the workspace.

  1. Choose Create a recipe from Quick actions, or type the request. Name the dish and the yield, and add ingredients and quantities if you have them: "Make me a custard tart, 12 portions" "Create our flat white: 18g espresso, 220ml whole milk, makes one"

  2. Check the ingredient matches first. If Edify picked the wrong product, select the pencil on the line or say which one you meant, for example "use the Cotteswold whole milk".

  3. Complete anything under Needed before you can create it. This is usually how many the recipe makes and a product for any ingredient Edify couldn't match.

  4. Select Create recipe.

If you only give the dish name, Edify suggests the ingredients and tags them Assumed. If an ingredient isn't in Edify at all, Edify either drafts a Master Product for it or asks you to pick a product. The footer shows how many things are left and the food cost per serve.

💡 If your till is connected to Edify, Edify offers to link the new recipe to its till button so every sale counts towards stock usage and GP. See Find my POS matches in Command Centre.

Update a recipe

Tell Edify what to change in a recipe you already have, and it opens the recipe with the change made. Nothing changes until you select Save changes.

  1. Choose Update a recipe from Quick actions, or name the recipe and the change: "Put the butter in the croissant up by 10%" "Change the brownie to 16 portions" "Take the walnuts out of the banana bread"

  2. Check the lines you asked to change. The workspace shows the whole recipe as it will be saved, with the new food cost per serve at the foot.

  3. Change anything else with the pencils in the workspace, or in the chat, for example "and make it 14".

  4. When the line above the button confirms every ingredient is linked and priced, select Save changes.

⚠️ The workspace shows the new amounts only, not the old ones. Read the lines you asked to change to confirm they're right before saving.

The workspace then shows Saved, with Open recipe and Undo. Undo puts the recipe back as it was.

Replace an ingredient across your recipes

Name the product you're replacing and the one replacing it, and Edify shows every recipe that uses it with the cost per portion before and after. Untick any recipe you want left alone, then approve once.

Both products need to be in Edify. If the new one isn't, add it first.

  1. Choose Replace an ingredient from Quick actions, or type the request: "Replace Bates double cream with Longley Farm double cream across my recipes"

  2. Untick any recipe that should keep the old product. Every recipe starts ticked, and the box at the top ticks or unticks them all.

  3. Check the cost per portion for each recipe.

  4. Select Approve. The button shows how many recipes it will change.

Part

What it means

1. Tick boxes

Every recipe starts ticked. Untick any you want to keep on the old product.

2. Cost per portion

Before and after. The new figure turns red when it goes up and green when it comes down.

3. The line being swapped

The product line, how much the recipe uses, and that line's cost before and after.

4. + 1 un-costed line

One line in that recipe can't be priced, so it isn't included in the cost shown.

5. No yield set

The recipe doesn't say how many portions it makes, so there's no cost per portion. Add the yield on the recipe.

6. Approve

Swaps the product in every ticked recipe in one go.

⚠️ A swap never updates recipe allergen lists. If the two products list different allergens, the workspace says which; open each flagged recipe and update its allergens yourself.

Undo puts every recipe back.

Make the same change in several companies

If you're a franchise admin, Edify can make one recipe change in every company you look after. It works out the change in each company against that company's own products and prices, and nothing changes in any of them until you approve. If Edify never asks which companies, your login looks after one company.

Add a recipe to several companies. For example, "Add the custard tart to all our companies". Edify asks which companies get it, then drafts it in each one, costed against that company's products, so the cost can differ. Each company shows Ready, Needs review, Similar recipe here or Skipped. The button shows how many companies it will add the recipe to.

Change a recipe in several companies. For example, "Change the brownie to 16 portions in every company". Edify opens one copy as the baseline for you to edit. By default, only the lines you change go to the other companies, and everything else stays as each company has it. To make every company match the baseline exactly, select Make every company match the baseline, then Keep theirs on any line a company should keep. Compare all shows where the copies differ.

Swap a product in several companies. For example, "Replace Bates double cream with Longley Farm double cream across all my companies". Edify plans the swap company by company. Check each one, then approve once. The receipt has one Undo for the whole swap.

If a line can't be costed

The line says why. Each reason has its own fix.

Reason

Fix

No product linked

The ingredient isn't matched to anything. Select the pencil and pick a product.

No pack cost on product

The product has no price. Add its pack cost on the product.

No base unit on product

The product has no unit, so Edify can't work out how much the recipe uses. Add one on the product.

Unit won't convert to product's

The recipe line and product use units Edify can't convert between, such as tablespoons against a product sold by the kilo. Change the line's unit, or give the product an alternative unit.

No cost yet on master product

The Master Product has no cost. Link a supplier product with a pack cost to it.

If it doesn't work

Edify matched the wrong product or recipe

Use the name exactly as your product or recipe list shows it, and add the supplier for products, for example "the Bates whole milk, not the Cotteswold one".

An ingredient comes from a suspended supplier

Edify flags it. Pick a product from an active supplier, or make the supplier active again.

Edify says no recipe uses the product

Recipes often use the same thing under another name, from another supplier, or as an older duplicate product. Edify looks for these and offers a swap for each one it finds.

A recipe you expected isn't in the swap workspace

It uses a different product. Ask "Which recipes use Bates double cream?" to see exactly which do.

You want the same change in every recipe that uses a product

Use Replace an ingredient rather than Update a recipe. It changes them all in one workspace.

A company needs review

A product in the recipe isn't linked in that company. Pick which product it is there, or take that company out.

None of the companies has the recipe

Check the recipe name matches the recipe list in each company.
