Congratulations on being put forward for a care recipient interview. Before your zoom call, please make sure you read through these top tips for making your interview a success.
The essentials:
Find a quiet place, free from noise and distraction to allow you to carry out the zoom in peace.
Sign into the zoom at least 5 minutes early. This way you can ensure you will have no technical difficulties with sound, video or Wifi.
Make sure you have read and understand the care plan in advance of the interview. Take note of all their personal needs and facts about the care recipient and have a few simple questions prepared e.g. "I read that he/she used to … does he/she still enjoy this?".
Talk about your own experiences, how you dealt with similar situations and why that would make you a great fit for this placement.
Be enthusiastic! our care recipients is looking for someone who is excited to work with the elderly, understand the important of the role and can be reliable presence in their lives.
Be yourself! As you know, you’ll be a companion as well as a carer, so a good sense of chemistry and personality is essential at this stage.
What a care recipient and family might ask:
What prior experience do you have? This is the most popular questions asked by a care recipient and their families, so be ready to talk confidentially about your previous work with the elderly. This is also a perfect opportunity to speak about what you have learnt during your edyn care training.
What do you like cooking and what food would you normally cook?
Why do you like being a live-in carer?
Are you familiar with giving medication?
Do you have references?
What you could ask:
What is 'care recipient' like? What do they like doing? This is the most important thing to ask about - it shows you are engaged, keen to get to know the care recipient better, and knowing what they like will help you to bond with them.
What would a typical day for 'care recipient' look like? Everyone's day is slightly different, so it's good to understand how a care recipient schedule and how fixed or flexible they like their day to be.
What would an amazing live-in carer look like to you?
