What is an offsite encrypted backup?

When you use offsite data backups, you can avoid paying the ransom to retrieve your data after a ransomware attack. Here's how it works.

One of the best ways to protect against the crippling consequences of ransomware is by backing up your critical data. This way, if a hacker encrypts your devices and demands ransom payment to access your files, you're not at their mercy: you can simply retrieve a backed-up, uncorrupted version. No downtime, and no payment required.

Why back up data offsite?

Ransomware isn't the only reason to keep your data backed up โ€“ a hardware failure could wipe out files on your device suddenly and unexpectedly, too.

Since attacks and failures can be connected, the most secure data backup is an offsite one. Physically separating the backup from the rest of your infrastructure is a better way to keep it out of harm's way.

How Elpha Secure backups work

We keep your data safe by encrypting it in your own computers using industry-standard encryption before it's sent to our servers. So, even if our cloud servers are breached, attackers won't be able to access the contents of your files.

What sets us apart from other backup tools is the fact that we automatically back up every change to a file, and we save every version. This means that if the malware landed on your file before it was backed up, you can easily return to a good version.

What comes next

Now that you have Elpha Secure software installed, be sure to start backing up your work. You can use our handy guide to Setting Up Data Backups. And in case you're hit with an attack, you'll also want to read about Restoring Data Backups.
