Purchase categories, the less intense sibling to GL codes, are a great way of getting a general overview of company expenditure. Our enriched transaction data will automatically sort your purchases by category for better insight into spending and simplified reporting.
How does it work?
Emerge uses Merchant category codes (MCCs) to categorise transactions. MCCs are four-digit numbers that credit card issuers use to classify merchants and businesses by the type of goods or services provided. For example, Veterinary Services has the MCC code 0742. MCCs and their definitions are set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

How do I export this information?
The categories can be exported via CSV on the web app at this stage.
Will I see this on all transactions?
Yes! As soon as you update to the latest app, we'll retroactively categorise all of your transactions.
