Use a non-mounted training type when you aren't in the saddle, for example when you drive or lunge your horse. This article explains how to record a non-mounted training, how to add gaits to it by hand, and how drivers can get gaits detected on a drive.
Before you start
The non-mounted training types are Combined Driving, Driving, Groundwork, Harness Racing, Long Reining and Lunging. In the training type list, each of them has a ? next to its name.
Equilab doesn't detect gaits on a non-mounted training, even if your phone is attached to the horse. You can add the gaits by hand when you finish the training, or later when you edit it.
Gait Segments isn't available for non-mounted trainings.
Record a non-mounted training
You record a non-mounted training the same way as a ride, with a non-mounted training type.
Go to the Track tab.
Tap Horse and choose the horse.
Choose a non-mounted training type, for example Driving or Lunging.
Tap Start tracking.
When you finish, tap Finish Ride.
Optional: add the gaits by hand on the screen that opens.
Tap Save.
The training is saved with the gaits you added, or without gaits if you skipped that step. For more on starting, stopping and saving, see How to record a ride.
Add gaits to a non-mounted training
Equilab doesn't detect gaits on a non-mounted training, but you can add them by hand. The training keeps its non-mounted training type.
When you finish the training
Tap Finish Ride.
On the screen that opens, add the gaits by hand.
Tap Save.
On a saved training
Open the training. You can find it in the feed on the Home tab, under Trends > All trainings, in the Calendar tab, or under Profile > Trainings.
On the Training Summary, tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
Tap Edit.
Add or change the gaits.
Tap Save.
The training now shows the gaits you entered. Gait Segments isn't available for non-mounted trainings, so the edit screen is where you change their gaits. For everything else you can change, see Edit a saved ride.
Get gaits detected on a drive
Equilab detects gaits from the movement of the phone, so for detected gaits on a drive, the phone has to move with the horse and the training type has to be a mounted one.
Attach your phone securely to the horse that's pulling, so the phone moves with the horse and doesn't bounce on its own.
Go to the Track tab, tap Horse and choose the horse.
Choose a mounted training type, not a non-mounted type such as Driving.
Tap Start tracking. When you finish, tap Finish Ride, then Save.
The drive is saved with detected gaits, under the mounted training type you chose. If some gaits are wrong and you have Premium, you can correct them: see Correct the gaits on a ride (Gait Segments). If the drive has no gaits at all, see My ride has no gaits.
If you want to keep the drive as a non-mounted training, record it as Driving or Combined Driving instead, and add the gaits by hand on the training's edit screen.
