Record a training on the Track tab: choose your horse and training type, start tracking, then stop and save when you finish. Equilab uses your phone's GPS and motion sensors, so carry your phone with you while you ride.
Before you start
Check your phone settings once: Essential Device & App Settings for Equilab to Work Properly.
Add your horse on the Profile tab: Add your horse.
Carry your phone tight against your body: Where to carry your phone while riding.
Start tracking
Go to the Track tab.
Tap Horse and choose the horse you're riding.
Choose the training type. For riding, choose a mounted type: non-mounted types, such as Driving, never detect gaits.
Tap Start tracking.
On Android, Equilab may ask you to allow location access and change your battery settings when you tap Start tracking. Allow both.
While you ride, the tracking screen shows your time, distance, speed and gaits. To stop for a moment, for example at a gate, use the pause button on the tracking screen and resume when you're ready.
Stop and save your training
When you finish, tap Finish Ride.
Optional: change the horse or training type, add a comment, photos or a video, rate your performance and your horse's, choose the ground type, trim the training, or mark it as Private.
Tap Save.
Your training opens with its stats. To read them, see Understand your Training Summary. Later, you can find the training:
In the feed on the Home tab.
On the Trends tab, under All trainings.
On the Calendar tab, where you can filter by horse, rider and week.
On the Profile tab, under Trainings.
Started tracking by mistake? Discard the training instead of saving it. After you tap Finish Ride:
On iPhone, tap the bin icon, then tap Delete in the Delete Training? pop-up.
On Android, tap the x icon, then tap Discard Training in the Delete Training? pop-up.
If your training didn't record properly
Check these in order:
Phone settings: location, battery and data savers can stop or weaken tracking. See Essential Device & App Settings for Equilab to Work Properly.
Other apps: switching apps, using your phone's camera or running another GPS app at the same time can disturb the recording. For photos, use the camera in Equilab: see Take photos during a ride.
Phone position: a phone bouncing around in a loose pocket or bag records inaccurate gaits.
Training type: Equilab doesn't detect gaits on non-mounted types, but you can add them by hand. See Record non-mounted trainings.
If your training stopped early, see My ride stopped recording or was cut short. If it has no gaits, see My ride has no gaits.
Open the section that fits your situation:
If you forgot to choose a horse
If you forgot to choose a horse
A training recorded without a horse is saved without one. To add the horse afterward, open the training under Profile > Trainings, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, tap Edit, choose the horse and tap Save. The training then shows with that horse everywhere it's saved: in the feed on the Home tab, under Trends > All trainings, in the Calendar tab and under Profile > Trainings.
If you want to start from your iPhone Lock Screen
If you want to start from your iPhone Lock Screen
On an iPhone with iOS 16 or later, you can add the Equilab widget to your Lock Screen and start tracking from there: after you unlock your iPhone, Equilab opens and starts tracking automatically. You can choose which horse and training type the widget uses. See How to start a ride from your iPhone Lock Screen.
If you record with a watch
If you record with a watch
With an Apple Watch in Remote mode (free), you start and stop tracking on your wrist while the phone you carry records the training. With Premium, Standalone mode records with the watch alone so you can leave your phone at the stable, but gaits aren't recorded. See Record a ride with your Apple Watch. For an Android watch, see Set up Equilab on your Android watch.
