Messaging: Purpose and Settings
Purpose of Messaging
Messaging is a great bi-directional communication tool that can be accessed:
via the Home → Overview as a teacher/staff member messaging most often from the context of a room tablet, performing room logging and parent updates
via the 💬 Messaging icon as a director/teacher/staff member or parent, from desktop and mobile devices
Think of messaging as a great alternative to emails and texts, bringing all communications into one application!
💡 Did you know? Messaging can also be sent and received as SMS! More on SMS via Messaging here.
Settings
Control what information is shown in Messaging, and who can initiate conversations with whom via:
⚙️ Settings → Messaging.
Live Translation
Turn on live translation to allow staff and parents to translate messaging into their preferred language - more details here.
"Seen by" Receipts
Turning off your “Seen by” receipts allows you to have control over whether the sender of a message knows you’ve read it. This can be useful to manage parental expectations, and allow staff to use their discretion about whether a reply is required straight away, especially out of hours.
Settings → Communication → Messaging → toggle on/off

☝️Note: Employees with the Manage enabling/disabling features permission can make these changes
Here’s how it looks:
The top toggle allows you to toggle “Seen by” receipts on and off entirely.
The second toggle allows you to choose whether you’d like contacts (parents/family) to see whether their message has been read by a member of staff
The third toggle allows you to choose whether a member of staff can see whether a manager role has yet read a message sent to them.
Parent to Parent Messaging
You can choose whether to allow parent to parent messaging in the app.
