What is Alison API and how is it different from our LMS products?

Written by Sveta Vyatkina

Alison offers different business solutions depending on how organisations want to manage learning and access to courses.

The Alison API is a technical integration solution designed for organisations that want to connect their internal systems (such as an LMS, website, or intranet) with Alison’s platform. It allows you to display Alison course information and redirect learners directly to Alison to complete their training.

Unlike our LMS products (FreeLMS and LMS+), which provide a complete learning management environment hosted by Alison—including user management, group structure, assignments, reporting, and certificates—the API does not manage learning inside your system.

Instead, the API focuses on connectivity and access, while the LMS focuses on full learning administration and delivery.

In simple terms:

  • LMS (FreeLMS / LMS+) = a complete platform to manage, assign, and track learning within Alison’s system

  • API = a technical bridge that connects your system to Alison and provides access to courses on Alison

If you would like a detailed explanation of how the API works, please refer to the Alison API section of the FAQ.
