What is Fernwayer?

Fernwayer is a curated marketplace for rare private day tours and experiences.

The human side of travel.

Fernwayer reimagines travel by offering rare access to people, stories, and living traditions that inspire human connection and cultural understanding.

Taking its name from Fernweh — farsickness, the opposite of homesickness, Fernwayer's day tours and experiences are co-created with photographers, fishermen, artisans, historians, chefs, architects, journalists, and naturalists — people with knowledge, passions, and a deep connection to place.

The result is not a generic tour but a carefully structured human encounter — with depth, access, and context that is rarely this easy to find, or this easy to book.

More than 80% of what Travelers pay goes directly to Experience Makers and their local collaborators.

What a Fernwayer Experience is

Every Fernwayer Experience is:

  • Rare — offering access, insight, or context that travelers cannot find elsewhere.

  • Story-rich — grounded in the Experience Maker's own knowledge, passion, and point of view.

  • Culturally rooted — connected to a living tradition, community, or place.

  • Mostly private — nearly all Fernwayer Experiences are private; a small number are shared with a limited group.

  • Bookable instantly — like a flight or a restaurant, with no request-and-wait.

  • Typically a few hours to a full day — never multi-day with accommodation, unless the overnight itself is essential to the Experience.

Wallet-free hosting

Every Fernwayer Experience is designed to be wallet-free on the day.

Tickets, food and drinks as listed, guide fee and tip, and any essential transport are all included in the price the traveler pays upfront.

We don't want the encounter to be transactional. Travelers are guests from the moment they arrive — received, not served.

Fair value, not just admiration

Admiration alone cannot preserve a community, craft or tradition. Fair value is what helps sustain the people and the traditions they carry.

That's why more than 80% of the value of each booking goes directly to the Experience Maker and their local collaborators. It's how we make sure the encounter is fair to everyone in it — the traveler, the Experience Maker, and the place itself.
