Fernwayer is a curated marketplace for rare, private day tours and experiences.
Fernwayer offers rare access to the people, stories, traditions behind a place — encounters you can discover, trust and book instantly.
The human side of travel.
Fernwayer is live in 14 countries and 60+ cities, with 800+ bookable Experiences created with 260+ Experience Makers — and new destinations added regularly.
One Fernwayer Experience can anchor an entire trip. To see what a day with an Experience Maker looks like, browse the Experiences — or read on to learn how booking, pricing, and preparing work.
Taking its name from Fernweh — farsickness, the opposite of homesickness
Fernwayer co-creates every Experience with photographers, fishermen, artisans, historians, chefs, architects, journalists, and naturalists: people with real knowledge, a genuine point of view, and a deep connection to place.
The result is not a generic tour but a carefully structured human encounter, with depth, access, and context that is rarely this easy to find, or this easy to book.
Fernwayer focuses only on the experiences that anchor a trip — it doesn't sell flights, hotels, or transfers.
Because people remember people. The story someone told them. The conversation that took them layers deeper into a place.
Not sightseeing. Not slowing down. Being invited in.
Mass tourism moves you past a place; slow travel asks you to move to it. The Fernwayer style of travel is a third way— structured private encounters with the people who make a place what it is.
A festival that belongs to the community. A closed-door workshop. A photographer's own route. An archaeologist's reading of the ruins. Story-centered and never scripted.
More than guides
Experience Makers are the heart of the model. They are more than guides — people whose knowledge, welcome, and point of view give every Experience its depth. We don't simply list their tour; we shape the Experience with them, around their story, their skills, and their world.
And it runs both ways. You bring curiosity and openness; the Experience Maker brings knowledge, welcome, and a point of view.
What makes it different
Wallet-free on the day. Tickets, food and drinks as listed, and the guide fee and tip are all included in the price you pay upfront. Once you arrive, there's no money changing hands and no calculation running in the background — you're a guest from the moment you arrive.
Access that's genuinely rare. Once-a-year festivals, after-hours visits, traditions not usually open to outsiders — with the context to understand what you're seeing.
Private and intimate. Over 95% of Experiences are privately bookable, with groups capped between two and eight — just you and your companions.
Fair value. More than 80% of each booking goes directly to the Experience Maker and their local collaborators. Admiration alone doesn't preserve a tradition. Fair value does.
