How to Price Your Experience

FOR EXPERIENCE MAKERS: How Fernwayer's pricing works, how to think about the right price for your Experience, and how minimum group sizes affect what Travelers pay.

Pricing on Fernwayer is more than a number — it reflects the depth of what you offer, the fair compensation of your time and expertise, and the wallet-free experience we promise Travelers on the day.

Pricing is per person

All Fernwayer Experiences are currently priced per person. The only option where a per-person and a per-group price are both required is for Shared with Private Option.

Per-person pricing keeps the platform consistent for Travelers browsing and comparing Experiences, and it reflects the individual, personal attention, curated nature of what Fernwayer offers.

Pricing is wallet-free on the day

The price you set is what Travelers pay upfront — and it must cover everything they'll need for the day. Fernwayer Experiences are wallet-free on the day: no cash transactions, no additional purchases required, no extras added at the end.

Your price should cover:

  • Your time, expertise, fee, and tip as host (Fernwayer is a non-tipping platform)

  • Food and drinks as described in the listing

  • Entry fees and tickets (museums, attractions, ceremonies, private site access)

  • Transport where required or relevant

  • Compensation for any collaborators or additional guides you bring into an Experience

  • All local taxes and fees you're responsible for

Travelers arrive as guests, not clients or customers — the transactional side of the day is complete before they meet you.

Currency is EUR or USD

Fernwayer sets the pricing currency by country. All European Experiences (including Türkiye) and Morocco are priced in Euros. All others are priced in US Dollars. If you're unsure which applies to you, ask your Fernwayer contact.

Fair Pricing — what you receive

The listed price on the Experience is the retail price a Traveler pays.

  • Fernwayer takes a 15% service fee.

  • Stripe takes a payment processing fee of ~3.5–5%.

  • You receive 80%+ of the retail price.

For a €150 listed price, that means your payout is €120.

Minimum group size

The minimum group size on your listing is the smallest number of people the price is calculated for — it protects your income against very small bookings.

If a Traveler books for fewer people than your minimum, they pay a minimum experience price adjustment — an amount that brings the total booking value up to your minimum. This ensures you're compensated fairly for your preparation, time, and expertise regardless of group size.

For example: if your minimum group size is 4 and your price is $100 per person, the minimum booking value is $400. If a solo Traveler books, they pay $100 (their share) plus a $300 adjustment — $400 total. After fees, you receive the same amount you would for a full four-person booking.

Set your minimum thoughtfully. A high minimum protects your income but may deter solo Travelers or couples. Many Fernwayer Experiences set a minimum of 2. Craft or Photography Experiences often benefit from a minimum of 1, since they are typically booked by a solo Traveler and the attention required from the Experience Maker is individualized.

Maximum group size

The maximum group size on your listing is up to 8 people.

We recommend keeping this smaller — most Fernwayer bookings are 2–4 travelers, and small groups better preserve the intimacy and personal attention of a private Experience.

One consideration: because pricing is per person, a very high maximum can produce a total price for larger groups that's out of step with typical group pricing in your market. If most of your bookings will be 2–4 people, keeping the maximum in a similar range often works better.

If a Traveler wants to book for a group larger than your maximum, they can contact Fernwayer, and we'll reach out to you to discuss how to accommodate them.

Shared Experiences and Shared with Private Option

While more than 90% of Fernwayer Experiences are Private, a small number are Shared or Shared with Private Option. Pricing works slightly differently for these:

Shared Experiences have a minimum of 1 — you host whoever books, up to your maximum. We would consider this only for annual festival Experiences that have limited dates. Speak with your Fernwayer contact before setting this up.

Shared with Private Option lets Travelers book the entire session privately. The privatization price is set to cover a group at reasonable capacity — often lower than the full-group total but high enough to compensate you fairly for delivering the Experience to just their party. This option works for craft and photography Experiences, where the Experience Maker's per-person cost of running the session doesn't drop much as more people join — so the privatization price gives a fair total for solo or couple bookings without inflating the per-person price. If you're offering this option, we'll help you set the privatization price during the editorial process.

Working with us on pricing

Setting the right price takes some judgment — the value of your Experience, the market you're in, the time and effort involved, and any fixed assets like a car, boat, or kitchen. Your Fernwayer contact can help you think through the price, sharing what's typical in your market and what's worked for similar Experiences on the platform. This is part of the collaborative approach at the heart of Fernwayer.

If your Experience is time- or effort-intensive to prepare (custom research, special ingredient sourcing, private venue rental), factor that in. If it involves collaborators (a musician, a chef, a driver), their fair compensation should be built into your per-person price.

If your business normally uses progressive group pricing — where the per-person rate drops as the group grows — let us know. Fernwayer's current model uses a fixed per-person price with a minimum group size, and we can work with you on a structure that fits your Experience while keeping it competitive for smaller bookings.

The goal isn't the highest price you can charge — it's the price that's fair to Travelers, sustainable for you, and reflective of what Fernwayer is: a marketplace for rare, considered Experiences priced with integrity.
