Summary

When you add Devices in a customer's account they will be listed in alpha/numeric order by their Device ID. It's a common practice to start with a number and to not include leading zeros. This is not the best way to organize Device IDs in the Work Order PDF when you have dozens of devices on-site to manage.

Key Points

  • The PDF lists the devices sorted by the alpha/numeric Device ID

  • Devices starting with a number will not be grouped together (Interior, Exterior...)

  • Start Device IDs with a letter or word followed by the number

When you have a Work Order that contains scanned devices, the printed Work Order (PDF) also lists the devices sorted by the alpha/numeric Device ID. All the 001s will be grouped together, followed by 002s and so on. If you do not use leading zeros, the devices will be listed as 1, 10, 2, 20 instead of 001, 002, 003, 004....

Apparently, some auditors don't like having exterior and interior IDs intermingled. They want all the Exterior devices together and all the Interior devices together.

The fix is to edit the devices listed in the customer's account online and start the Device ID with a letter or word followed by the number: Exterior 001, Exterior 002, Interior 001, Interior 002, etc. When the work order is printed each group of devices will be together.

Tip If you have more than 100 bar codes/qr codes for this location use three digits in your ID. Exterior 001, Exterior 002, etc.
