⚔️ Nanowrimo Day 11: Battle 1 begins

What to write for NaNoWriMo today, based on the classic 3-act story structure.

Updated over a year ago

This week, you're taking your characters from their decision to go after their external goal, to the highest point in the story.

What to write today

Today, you're kicking off battle 1 [16,670–18,337 words]:

  • Battle 1 – Your protagonist and friends must actively engage with the big thing that has happened, and try to overcome it.

  • Give them a challenge that they need to address. It's call and response. You will continue to do this over the next three days.

  • Make sure that your sub-plot has an escalation, and that it supports the overall story.

Want a different sort of prompt? Have one of your characters guide the others through a task/challenge as if it were a how-to. Think: The Dummies Guide to Battle Magic, or similar. 🪄

Update your running editorial note

At the end of the day make a note of any off-course deviations, potential inconsistencies, areas to research further, or moments of inspiration to revisit when you edit in December/January.
