Updated over 4 months ago

Printing your chapter or plot outline from First Draft Pro is simple with your browser's built-in printing tools.

Follow these steps to get the best visual print quality:

  1. Open Your Browser Menu

    • Click on the three dots to the right of the search bar in Chrome (other browsers have similar menus).

  2. Select the Print Option

    • Choose the Print option from the menu.

    • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut:

      • Windows/Linux: Press Ctrl+P

      • Mac: Press CMD+P

  3. Browser Print Tools

    • Your browser’s print tools will appear. The initial preview might not look exactly right, but we’ll fix that next.

  4. Open More Settings

    • Click on "More settings" to bring up advanced options.

  5. Adjust Advanced Settings

    • Margins: Change to "Custom". Set top and bottom margins to 0.3 inches (type this into the margin boxes).

    • Scale: Set to Custom and adjust to 70.

    • Headers and Footers: Turn off.

    • Background Graphics: Turn on.

Printing or Saving as PDF

Once you've adjusted the settings, you can choose to print directly or save your outline as a PDF.

Tips

  • These settings are a recommendation for the best visual quality. Your browser should remember them for next time.

  • Feel free to play with the advanced settings to get the print output that you like best.
