Why does my asset say it's 'Offline'?

Introducing a new Offline status

Updated over 9 months ago

If your asset has not checked into our servers for 24 hours, an offline status will be displayed on the asset.

You will see this status appear on the asset list while you're in the Tracking View, as seen below:

Why does this happen?

Our Fleetpin GPS devices automatically send an update to our servers every 2 hours to let us know your GPS device is active, even if your vehicle/machine has not been powered on or used. This 2 hour check-in was introduced at the same time as our recent Low Battery Alert feature, which alerts you if your asset's battery is going flat (useful for when your vehicles or machines are parked for an extended period of time).

What does it mean if my device is 'powered off'?

If your asset has not checked into our servers for 24 hours, and the last update we received from your asset had a low battery reading, a power off status will be displayed on the asset.

Why has my device not checked-in?

More often than not there's no need to worry, just monitor the asset's status - it could be out of phone coverage such as parked in a garage or somewhere where it has no reception. Worst case scenario, it could be something to action if the battery has died, your asset has been stolen, or it has been powered off. Ultimately, you know your asset best and what is normal - if it's unusual for the asset to be in an area with no reception, it could be worth checking out.
