Notification Limits

We've updated how we allocate notifications (SMS, emails, and calls).

Updated over 4 months ago

The monthly quota for SMS and voice notifications has changed. Originally this was just 25 SMS and 25 voice calls per month per organisation, with some organisations having higher limits if they requested this from us.

Every organisation now gets a free quota of SMS & voice calls based on the number of devices and add-ons they have. An organisation gets 5 free SMS/voice notifications per month for each device, and 5 more for each eligible add-on they have. For example, an organisation with 10 devices, each of which has the the Impact Alert and Overspeed Alert add-ons, will get 150 free SMS or voice call notifications per month (50 from 10 devices, 50 from 10 Impact Alert add-ons, and 50 from 10 Overspeed Alert add-ons).

Eligible add-ons include only those which have associated alerts, namely every add-on except Harsh Driving, RUCOR Advanced, and Workshop.

When an organisation exceeds its quota, it will continue to receive notifications, but they will be charged for each notification over the quota (at the same price they were earlier, which is $0.50 per call or SMS).

If an organisation sends too many SMSs or calls (twice their free quota), their SMS/call notifications are shut off for the rest of the month to prevent an unexpectedly large bill in the case that they have an alert going haywire.

Users can see their remaining free notifications as before in Admin > Alerts.

Note that SMS & voice calls are now combined into a single quota instead of being counted separately.

The email notification quota hasn’t changed and is still just a hard limit of 10,000 free emails per month. Once they exceed that limit, they will stop receiving emails as before.
