Live Trip Tracking

  1. Open the Mileage tab

  2. Tap Start Trip to begin live GPS tracking

  3. Drive to your destination -- Flippd tracks the route in real time

  4. Tap Stop Trip when you arrive

  5. Review the distance, classify the trip, and save

Flippd calculates your deduction using the IRS standard mileage rate ($0.67 per mile for 2024/2025).

Classifying Your Trips

Instead of a simple business-or-personal switch, you can label each trip with the kind of errand it was. Open a trip and tap Classify this trip, then choose:

  • Sourcing -- buying inventory (thrift stores, estate sales, garage sales)

  • Shipping -- post office and courier runs

  • Supplies -- picking up packaging or office supplies

  • Banking -- deposits and bank visits

  • Personal -- non-business trips (not deductible)

Each type has its own icon and badge, so your log is easy to scan and your records are clearer at tax time. Sourcing, Shipping, Supplies, and Banking all count as business mileage.

Automatic Route Classification

When you classify the same route the same way a few times, Flippd offers to do it for you: "Always classify this route?" Tap Auto-classify and you'll see "Route rule saved -- future trips classify automatically." From then on, trips along that route are labeled for you -- handy for regular runs like your weekly post office trip.

Saved Locations

Save frequently visited places for faster trip entry:

  • Tap Saved Locations in the Mileage tab

  • Add locations like your local thrift stores, post office, or storage unit

  • When logging a trip, select a saved location instead of typing it each time

Your Location Data Stays Private

Trips and their GPS routes are stored on your device, not in the cloud. When you save a trip for your records, Flippd keeps the mileage and the deduction but leaves the detailed location trail on your phone. You get an accurate, IRS-ready mileage log without your movements being synced to a server.

Good to Know

  • Only business trips count as tax deductions -- mark personal trips separately

  • Common business trip purposes: sourcing at thrift stores, post office runs, storage unit visits

  • Keep a consistent log -- the IRS requires mileage records to claim the deduction

  • You can duplicate a trip entry for recurring routes

  • Mileage rates can be configured in Settings > Mileage Rates
