Selecting Products for Your DSP Campaigns: What It Does and Why It Matters

Understand products and conversion tracking within Amazon DSP campaigns

Updated today

When launching a new DSP campaign using Teikametrics’ Campaign Creator, the first step is selecting the products (ASINs) you want to promote. This step is essential not only for guiding your campaign setup, but also for enabling conversion tracking through Amazon’s featured ASIN attribution model.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

✅ Why We Ask You to Select Products First

The products you select will be used to:

  • Define the core of your campaign targeting and creative
These ASINs inform the types of ads you’ll run, the audiences you may want to reach, and the performance insights you’ll receive.

  • Guide Teikametrics’ automation logic
We use your selected products to recommend audiences, targeting strategies, and campaign settings that align with your advertising goals.

  • Set up conversion tracking for Amazon DSP
These products will be registered as featured ASINs—Amazon uses this designation to track conversions that can be attributed back to your DSP ads.

🎯 What Are "Featured ASINs"?

Featured ASINs are the products that Amazon will use to determine whether a campaign drove a conversion. If a shopper views or clicks a DSP ad and then purchases one of your featured ASINs (or interacts meaningfully with it), Amazon will count that as a view-through or click-through conversion for your campaign.

That’s why it’s critical to:

  • Only include ASINs that are directly relevant to the goals of your campaigns.

  • Ensure that the selected products reflect what you want to measure and optimize against.

💡 Best Practices When Selecting Products

  • Be focused: Limit your ASIN selection to a small, strategic set of products (5–25 is ideal).

  • Match to campaign intent: If your primary goal is upper-funnel awareness, consider hero or flagship products. For lower-funnel retargeting, include high-converting ASINs.

  • Group ASINs by product line or goal: Don’t mix unrelated ASINs in a single campaign workflow -- this ensures more accurate reporting and optimization.

🔍 Can I Update My Selected Products Later?

Once your campaign is live, featured ASINs cannot be changed. If you need to promote a different set of products, we recommend creating a new campaign with the updated ASIN list. This ensures your conversion tracking remains consistent and accurate.

📊 Where Will I See Conversion Data?

Conversions tied to your selected ASINs will appear in your campaign reporting under:

  • Clicks / Views

  • Detail Page Views

  • Add to Cart Events

These metrics help you understand how your ads are influencing shopper behavior tied to the products you selected.
