What is the Table of Contents Feature?

The Table of Contents feature is a new tool designed to enhance the readability and navigation of your stories. When embedded in a story, it allows you to create an in-story navigation element that provides jump links to parts of the story. Additionally, on on creation the Table of Contents will autofill with items based on the headings present in the body text of the story.

Note: Table of Contents feature is enabled only for articles, galleries, reviews, recipes and live stories.

How to Use the Table of Contents Feature

  1. Start by creating a new story or editing an existing one.

  2. Insert the Table of Contents:

    • From the text editing toolbar, click on the "Table of Contents" button

  3. The Table of Contents will be automatically generated to display a list of all the headers in your story. You may leave, edit, or manually insert new items in the Table of Contents.

Other fields in the Table of Contents feature

Note: The bulleted list in the "Contents" field is anchor linked to the headers in your story. So, on website when a reader clicks on the links in the Table of contents they would be redirected to the particular header in the story. Learn how Anchor links work here

Updating the Table of Contents

Feel free to edit the bulleted points inside the Table of contents but make sure all the text is in bulleted points. Any non bulleted text means the table of contents won't appear on front end. We plan to support non bulleted text in future revisions ans will keep you updated regarding the changes.

If you have made edits to the story and would like to repopulate the Table of Contents with the latest headers in your story, simply click on "Autofill with Headers" and your list will be regenerated with updated headers.

Note: This will override any edits made to the "Contents" field earlier.
