What is two-step verification?
Two-step verification is an extra layer of security for your Forsyth Barr online account. It is optional and can be enabled or disabled at any time.
When you log into your online account, you will be asked to enter both your password and a verification code generated by SMS, email or your authenticator app.
How to enable two-step verification via SMS, email or authenticator app
When logging in to your online account, you'll have the option to add additional verification using the new Security feature.
1. After clicking on Security, you will be directed to the Edit your security settings page
2. Go to the Security option on the page, then select On to enable your two-step verification process
3. Once you have selected On, retype your password then click Next
4. Select Authenticator app, Email or SMS from the Preferred verification method, then click Next

1. You will receive an email with a code from no-reply@forsythbarr.co.nz to your email address
2. Open the email, enter the code then click Next
3. A confirmation message will pop up once successful

Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator are recommended, however you're welcome to use whatever authenticator app you prefer.
For Android users
For Apple users
1. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code you see on screen or enter the secret key manually
2. Enter the six digit code in your authenticator app, then click Next
3. A confirmation message will pop up once successful
Do you want to add a back-up method?
After receiving your confirmation message, you'll be asked to add a back-up method. If you don't want top add one, click No Thanks
How to disable two-step verification
1. Click Security to go back to the Edit your security settings page
2. Enter your password
3. You will receive a notification to confirm your request
4. On the Edit your security settings page, you will see that two-step verification has been turned off
What to do if your phone has been lost, stolen or damaged
Please contact us and we will disable two-step verification for you. We may also recommend that you reset your password.
What two-step verification method should I use?
SMS
This method sends you a code via SMS text message after you have successfully entered your email address and password.
Similar to the SMS method above, after you have entered your login details you will receive a six digit code via email.
Authenticator app
Also called a software token, this method requires an authenticator app in which you scan a QR code or enter the time sensitive key which the app has randomly generated.
