Learn what an EarthRover is, its key features, and the different models available.

Updated over a week ago

An EarthRover is a real-world sidewalk robot that you can control remotely through your browser. Powered by 4G connectivity, it allows you to drive the robot from any location in the world, without distance limitations. Whether the bot is in your city or across the globe, you can operate it in real time.

What Can You Do with an EarthRover?

Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Explore Anywhere: Navigate the neighborhood without leaving your home.

  • Drive-to-Earn: Earn FrodoBots Points (FBP) by driving your bot. Collect items that are Solana NFTs.

  • Share Access: Give control of your bot to anyone in the world with a link.

  • Rent It Out: Let other gamers use your bot and earn.

  • AI & SDK Ready: Run experiments, create automations, and integrate AI models.

  • Participate in Tournaments: Join human ET Fugi competitions.

FAQs

Battery

Is the battery removable or replaceable?

No. The battery is built-in and not designed to be removed or replaced.

How many charge cycles can the battery handle?
Each battery can handle around 500–1000 charge cycles, depending on usage and charging habits.

What happens if the battery runs out mid-mission?
The bot will shut down automatically once the battery is fully drained.
We recommend returning to base or ending your drive when the battery level reaches around 20% to avoid disconnection mid-mission.

Does continuous audio monitoring affect runtime?
No. Audio monitoring is always on by default and does not reduce driving time or battery performance.

GPS

Does GPS work indoors?
The GPS requires an open-sky view to function properly and may not work indoors.

How accurate is the GPS?

  • EarthRover Mini: Around 10m

  • EarthRover Mini+ / Zero (with RTK): Around 50cm

Do Mini+ and Zero support RTK corrections?
Yes. Both Mini+ and Zero models support RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) corrections for higher accuracy. The Mini model is limited to standard GPS only.

Is RTK setup required?
No setup needed. RTK correction works automatically once a signal is available.

Is GeodNet RTK correction free?
Yes. RTK correction through GeodNet is free to use.

What happens if the GPS signal is lost?
If GPS signal is lost, the map will disappear, but you can continue driving using the live camera feed.

Can I disable GPS?
No. GPS is always active while the bot is powered on.

Controls

Does the EarthRover come with a remote?

No. The EarthRover does not come with a remote control.
You can drive it using your keyboard, a game controller, or a driving wheel connected to your laptop or desktop computer.

Microphone

Can the mic pick up conversations or sounds?
Yes. The onboard microphone can capture conversations and loud sounds such as glass breaking. However, soft sounds like footsteps are usually too faint to be detected clearly.

Is there noise filtering?
No. The bots do not have hardware-level noise filtering, so background sounds may be picked up during recording or live monitoring.

Can I access raw audio data?
Yes. Raw audio data can be accessed through open-source tools and SDK integrations.

Can the bots process audio locally?
No. Audio is not processed locally on the bot. It is transmitted to the server in real time.

Can the bots stream audio?
Yes. Audio streaming works over both Wi-Fi and 4G, though you may experience slight latency during live sessions.

SDK & Customization

Is there an SDK?
Yes, Python SDK on GitHub.

Can I integrate external sensors?
Yes, on Mini+ via GPIO and open-source projects.

Are 3D models or STL files available?
Yes. The 3D models and STL files for EarthRover parts are available through our open-source repositories.

Can I modify the hardware?
Yes, but please note that any issues that occur after hardware modifications are not covered by support.

Once the product has been altered or modified, our team may not be able to assist with troubleshooting or repairs.

SIM & Connectivity

Does the bot act as a Wi-Fi hotspot?
Yes. The bot can broadcast a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it does not provide internet access.

Can I route other devices through the LTE plan?
No. The bot’s 4G/LTE connection is reserved for its own operation and cannot be shared with other devices.

What 4G bands are supported?

  • LTE FDD: B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B13/B18/B19/B20/B25/B26/B28

  • LTE TDD: B38/B39/B40/B41

  • UMTS: B1/B2/B4/B5/B6/B8/B19

  • GSM: B2/B3/B5/B8

Can I replace or add an external Wi-Fi antenna?
Not recommended. Modifying the antenna may affect signal quality and void support coverage.
