How to charge an EarthRover

Updated over 2 months ago

Charging your Earth Rover correctly is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and extending battery life. Follow these steps to charge your EarthRover safely and effectively:

For Earth Rover Zero

  1. Find the Charger Plug

    • The charger plug is located beside the back headlights of your Earth Rover.

  2. Plug in the Charger

    • Insert the charger plug firmly into the port. It typically takes 2–3 hours to fully charge.

    • A full charge provides around 5–6 hours of operation.

Unplug the charger once it’s fully charged to help preserve long-term battery health.

Note:

  • A red light on the charger indicates that your Earth Rover is charging.

  • A green light means your Earth Rover is fully charged.

Tips for Charging Your Earth Rover:

  • Monitor Heating: While charging, keep an eye on your Earth Rover. If you notice any unusual heating, disconnect the charger immediately and allow your Earth Rover to cool down before resuming charging.

  • Use Genuine Chargers: Always use chargers that come with your Earth Rover to ensure compatibility and safety. Using unauthorized chargers may damage your bot's battery or components.

If you notice anything unusual with the charger or the charging process, reach out to customer support immediately.

For EarthRover Mini / Mini+

Charging Time and Battery Life

A full charge takes about 5.5 hours. Once charged, your EarthRover Mini or Mini+ can run for around 4–8 hours, depending on usage and driving conditions.

When idle, the battery will gradually drain and last for about 15 hours before needing to be recharged.

Charging Indicator Lights

The charging light tells you the current battery level:

  • Below 30%: Flashing red

  • 30–70%: Flashing yellow

  • 70–99%: Flashing green

  • 100%: Solid green

Once the light turns solid green, the battery is fully charged.

Using the Right Charger

Always use the original charger that came with your EarthRover for best results.
Other USB-C chargers may work, but charging speed will be limited to 15W.

Wireless charging is not supported.

Power Banks and Overnight Charging

  • Charging with a power bank is possible but not recommended, whether the bot is idle or in use.

  • Avoid charging overnight. Once fully charged, unplug the charger to help preserve long-term battery health.

Safety Features

Your EarthRover battery includes built-in protection systems to prevent damage during charging:

  • Overcharge protection

  • Over-discharge protection

  • Over-current protection

  • Short-circuit protection

If you notice the bot or charger heating up unusually, unplug immediately and allow it to cool before resuming charging.

Modifications and Custom Hardware

You can modify your bot’s hardware if needed, but please note that any issues that occur after hardware modifications are not covered by support.

Once the product has been altered, the team may not be able to assist with troubleshooting or repairs.
