Setting up the Access Point Name (APN) for your SIM card is essential to ensure your bot can connect to the internet. If the APN is incorrect, the bot won't be able to access the network. This guide will show you how to configure the APN on your bot's SIM card.
Step 1: Find Your APN Settings
Before setting up the APN, you need to get the correct details from your mobile carrier. These details usually include:
APN Name
Username (if required)
Password (if required)
Authentication Type (PAP/CHAP)
Proxy and Port (if required)
MCC (Mobile Country Code) and MNC (Mobile Network Code)
To find these details, insert the SIM card into your phone and follow these steps based on your device:
Android Devices:
Go to Settings.
Tap on Network & Internet.
Select Mobile Network.
Tap on Advanced.
Click on Access Point Names.
Your SIM card's APN settings will be displayed here.
iOS Devices:
Go to Settings.
Tap on Cellular.
Select Cellular Data Network.
Your SIM card's APN settings will be listed under Cellular Data and Personal Hotspot.
Windows Devices:
Go to Settings.
Tap on Network & Wireless.
Select Cellular & SIM settings.
Click on SIM settings.
Your SIM card's APN settings will be displayed here.
Step 2: Access the APN Settings on Your Bot
Once you have the APN details of the SIM, you're ready to configure it.
1. Use your mobile phone to connect to your EarthRover
Insert the SIM into the Earth Rover and use your mobile phone to connect to the EarthRover's Wi-Fi (Name: 'frodobots_XX'; Default Password: 12345678). See example below:
2. Access Earth Rover web settings
Open a browser on your mobile phone and go to http://192.168.11.1/ to access the web settings
3. Provide details for Earth Rover
Fill in the required info in the web form (see screenshot). Click "Submit" once finished.
Note: If any APN field on your carrier's website is blank, leave it blank in the EarthRover settings as well.
4. Monitor LED for status change
If the Earth Rover's LED blinks rapidly and then turns solid after some time, the setup is successful.
Troubleshooting Tips
If the bot fails to connect after configuring the APN, consider the following:
Double-check the APN details to ensure accuracy.
Ensure the SIM card is active and has sufficient data balance.
Test the SIM in another device (e.g., a smartphone) to verify that it works.
Check for network restrictions or additional settings required by the carrier.
