Nutrition Analysis Reports

Overview of the four nutrition analysis report types available in Gaia

Written by Souha Alameddine

The Nutrition Analysis section offers four report types, each designed for a different purpose. All four are accessed from the same page. Use the Report Type dropdown to switch between them. Each report can be exported to CSV or Excel.

How Weighted Analysis Works

The Weighted Daily and Weekly Weighted reports calculate nutrient values by weighting each offering's contribution by its portion count, rather than treating all offerings equally. This gives a more accurate picture of the nutrients actually reaching students when multiple recipes are offered on the same day.

Feeding figure is set at the menu plan level and represents the expected total number of meals for that menu. It serves as the baseline for the weighted calculation. The default setting is 100.

To enable weighted analysis, each offering on the menu should have a portion count set. This is done from the menu builder when planning offerings for a given day. Offerings with no portion count set are treated as 0 and excluded from the calculation, so it is important to set counts for all offerings you want included.

Daily weighted calculation: For each day, Gaia multiplies each offering's nutrient values by its portion count, sums those values across all offerings on the day, and divides by the total feeding figure. The result is a single weighted nutrient value for the day that reflects the relative contribution of each offering.

Weekly weighted calculation: The weekly averages are calculated by averaging the daily weighted values across all days included in the selected week. Days with no offerings are excluded from the average.

A * on any offering, daily, or weekly value indicates one or more source nutrient values are missing from the calculation.

Weekly Weighted Nutrient Analysis Report

Applies the weekly weighted calculation to produce averages for calories, sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars across the selected week, and compares each against the required threshold to show a Pass/Fail result. The analysis is based on the weighted values.

Best for: Weekly compliance review and monitoring nutrient trends across the week.

Key details:

  • The standards row shows the required threshold for each nutrient. Saturated fat and added sugars thresholds display as ≤ 10% of Calories.

  • Added Sugars includes a footnote noting that the ≤ 10% of Calories limit takes effect July 1, 2027. The footnote disappears automatically after that date.

Daily Nutrition Analysis

Shows the per-serving nutrient values for each recipe offered on a given day, based on the menu. Use this report to review the nutritional profile of individual offerings for a specific date, including calories, macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and meal pattern credits.

Best for: Day-to-day menu review and checking a specific recipe's nutrition on a specific date.

Weighted Daily Nutrition Analysis

Applies the weighted calculation described above to produce a daily nutrient summary that reflects the actual mix of offerings and their portion counts. The analysis is based on the weighted values.

Best for: Reviewing the nutritional impact of a day's menu when multiple recipes are offered at different quantities.

Ingredient Detail

Breaks down all recipes nutrient contribution by individual ingredient, showing how much of each nutrient each ingredient provides. This report is useful for understanding which ingredients are driving the nutritional profile of each dish.

Best for: Managing and identifying ingredients that significantly impact sodium, saturated fat, calories, or other nutrients.

A * on any row indicates missing nutrient value.
