What We're Working On

A rolling look at what's in flight at Gaia and what's coming next.

Written by Souha Alameddine

A rolling look at what's in flight at Gaia and what's still being developed. Updated weekly.

Two buckets:

  • 🍽️ On the menu β€” approved and shipping in the next cycle.

  • πŸ§ͺ In the test kitchen β€” still being worked out.

🍽️ On the menu

Recipes

  • Delete button for recipe and item photos, with clearer error messages when uploads fail.

  • Fix for serving size changes in the Details tab not syncing to Nutrition grade group fields.

  • Fix for the Added Sugars missing-value asterisk not appearing on recipe and nutrient analysis reports.

Menus and public menus

  • A daily view option for public menus, showing breakfast and lunch side by side for a given day.

Production records and orders

  • Fix for production record calendar randomly showing days as disabled.

  • Fix for ingredient-level quantities not updating the recipe-level total until after a page refresh.

  • Fix for "Skip a week" to disable every day in the selected week and clear production records.

  • Orders filtered to hide rows where nothing was ordered, sent, or received; print option added to the order panels.

  • Order guide name shown instead of order guide number when creating an order.

Inventory and items

  • Fix for Calculate Inventory leaving ingredient fields empty on some production records.

  • Price per unit shown on the unit conversion screen when adding vendor products.

  • A new "Inactive" state for items, separate from items Gaia auto-archives.

  • Redesigned unit conversion editor in the item pantry to prevent broken conversion graphs from being saved.

Front of house (POS)

  • Fix for POS login state not fully resetting on logout, which caused the classroom view to get stuck.

  • Fix for POS terminal data missing from morning reports due to terminals not syncing at their configured reset time.

Central Kitchen

  • Central Kitchen managers can drag sub-recipes from the recipe book onto any production record to plan prep work ahead of when the main recipe is needed.

πŸ§ͺ In the test kitchen

We're working out several areas at once. On the recipe side: scaling by batch and by yield (in addition to servings), an editable yield field on the nutrition tab, and an option to export scaled sub-recipes alongside a parent recipe. For labels, we're looking at rendering ingredient statements in title case, adding ingredient statements to generated labels, and showing milligrams alongside the daily percentage for micronutrients. On public menus: translation of fixed words like month names and combo labels, hiding cycle status from the public view, exporting multiple schools' menus together, and display options for grouping sides with their mains. For production records and orders: a checkbox to exclude items from totals, a right-click shortcut to the scaling calculator, improved school switching in the daily view, forecasting for recipes added after a forecast is confirmed without unlocking the production record, and a packing slip export from the order page. We're also exploring saved views on weekly reports, a category column on consolidated orders, inventory reports (transfer, daily summary, printable slip), keeping manufactured items in sync when a source recipe changes, student account list sorting in POS, and notifications to school managers when a recipe they're using is updated.
