Quick Start for Cashiers

This article covers what a cashier does on a typical service. Tasks are grouped by when they happen.

Before Service

  • Open the POS app on your terminal or in a browser tab. The app should already be paired to a terminal. If a registration screen appears, contact the manager or IT lead.

  • Select the meal program you are serving (Breakfast, Lunch, etc.).

  • If prompted, enter your PIN to start the session.

If your terminal is a touchscreen or Chromebook with no physical keyboard, an on-screen keyboard appears automatically when you tap a text field. See Using the On-Screen Keyboard.

During Service

  • When a student scans their ID or enters their PIN, the transaction opens. For students without an ID, tap the + button to search the roster.

  • Tap menu options to add them to the order. Tap again to remove.

  • Acknowledge allergen warnings if they appear before continuing.

  • Complete the transaction to charge the student's account or record the payment.

After Service

  • Open the hamburger menu (☰) in the session toolbar and select End Session.

  • Review the session totals and any flagged transactions.

  • Enter session notes if required, then confirm End Session.
