Using the On-Screen Keyboard

How the built-in on-screen keyboard works in the Gaia POS app on touchscreens and Chromebooks without a physical keyboard.

When You'll See It

If your terminal is a touchscreen or Chromebook without a physical keyboard, the POS app shows an on-screen keyboard automatically whenever a text input is focused. You'll typically see it when:

  • Entering a Staff PIN to start a session.

  • Typing Session Notes at end of service.

  • Searching for a student in the roster or queue.

  • Adding notes to a flagged transaction.

  • Filling in any cash-count or balance field.

Using the Keyboard

Tap the input field to bring the keyboard up, then tap letters or numbers like you would on a phone. Tap outside the field, or press the keyboard's close affordance, to hide it.

Setup

The keyboard is built into the Gaia POS app β€” there is no separate setup, operating-system keyboard, or browser extension to configure. It works the same way on tablets, Chromebooks, and any other touch device that opens the POS app in a browser.

If the Keyboard Doesn't Appear

If you tap a field and the on-screen keyboard doesn't show up, your device may have a physical keyboard attached or detected. Either use the physical keyboard, or disconnect it and reload the POS app.

If you still have trouble entering text, see Troubleshooting the POS App or contact your IT lead.
