What This Covers
This article is for marketing and web managers who want to put the public scaling calculator on their own website. It covers choosing which recipes appear in the calculator and copying the link or embed code. If you are a chef or manager scaling and printing a recipe inside Gaia, see Scale & Print Recipe instead.
The public scaling calculator is the public version of your recipes. A visitor picks one of your published recipes, enters how many portions they want (or the amount they have of one key ingredient), and every ingredient rescales automatically. Only the recipes you publish to it appear; everything else stays private.
Step 1: Publish a Recipe to the Calculator
Open the recipe. In the details panel on the right, turn on Published to public calculator (the globe row, below Manufactured item).
On: the recipe becomes selectable in your public calculator.
Off: the recipe is removed from the calculator. It stays in Gaia, just not public.
Repeat for each recipe you want available in the calculator.
Duplicating a recipe does not copy this setting. Publish the copy to the calculator separately if you want it there.
Step 2: Get the Link and Embed Code
On any recipe, click the … menu (top right, next to Edit) and choose Get embed code. The Embed your public scaling calculator window opens.
The window gives you two things:
Calculator URL: a direct link to your public scaling calculator. Use the copy icon to grab it, or the open icon to preview it. Share this link in newsletters, emails, or social posts.
Embed code: a snippet you paste into your website to show the calculator inline. Use the copy icon, then give the snippet to your IT or web team to add to the page.
The link opens the recipe you copied it from
Both the link and the embed code open your public calculator with that recipe already loaded, rather than an empty picker. This is what lets a "Scale this recipe" button on your own site take a visitor straight to the dish they were reading about.
The link keeps working after you edit and republish the recipe, so a button on your website does not go stale.
The calculator always shows exactly the recipes you have currently published, so as you publish or unpublish recipes it updates on its own and there is nothing to re-copy.
Good to Know
Unpublished recipes never appear in the calculator, and Get embed code is only offered on a recipe the calculator can resolve. If the option is missing, publish the recipe first.
Placing the embed code on your website usually needs web or IT access, so your IT or web person typically handles it.
