Why doesn't GMM provide feedback to students on incorrectly answered problems?

Josh Britton, GMM Founder, explains why there is no hint, video tutorial, or feedback on wrong answers

Updated over 5 months ago

Josh Britton, GMM Founder, shared the following with our Facebook teachers' group.

"I've gone back and forth on this for years. My first creation of GMM did not have any explanations, like now. After a few years, I came to the conclusion that it would be great if students had explanations, so I invested a huge amount of time working explanations into the system.

However, when I released the explanation version, it backfired. A few of my students used it well, but many of them became 'button mashers.' They didn't truly want explanations; they just wanted the problem to go away.

I got more growth from my students - more productive dialog and wrestling with areas of weakness - when I once again removed computer provided explanations."
