Yield FAQs

Yields, how to use them and why they are important.

Updated over a week ago

What is a recipe Yield?

Yields are a very important part of recipe creation. This is how we know how much is created from your recipe, whether that amount is one serving, a batch recipe that creates 30 servings or you have a specific weight or volume amount.

Why are yields important?

  • Filling in your recipe yield is required to:

    • Accurately display recipe costs

    • Use the Food Cost Calculator to show food cost% and profit.

    • Calculate nutrition information.

    • Show cost data in the menus feature.

How do I enter a yield?

At the top of your recipe you will see the section to fill in your yield.

Always enter a quantity and units for your yield.

  • Example yields are:

    • 1 serving

    • 1 Batch

    • 5000 grams

    • 3 Quarts

If you want to know the measured amount of your yield you can use the auto calculate yield function.

Why is there an error on my sub recipe when I use auto calculate yield?

  • This happens when the yield is set with a different unit of measure than the sub recipe. An example would be if your yield is in grams and your sub recipe calls for 1 serving of the recipe.

  • To fix this your sub recipe will need a UoM Equivalency to convert 1 serving to the weight or volume measure your are using as the yield units on your parent recipe. See video below for more.

I entered my yield why do I still get an error for nutrition.

Nutrition is calculated in weight measures. A UoM Equivalency will need to be set up on the recipe and potentially each ingredient or sub recipe to tell the app how much each is equal to in weight.
