Editing meeting transcripts

Use this article to edit your meeting transcript when it mishears information

Written by Jacob Watters

Transcriptions are good, but they're not perfect — client names, fund names, and industry terms can be misheard. You can now edit a meeting transcript directly in Trail, so your record (and everything generated from it) reflects what was actually said.

How to edit a transcript

  1. Open the meeting from the client's profile timeline, stay on the Transcript tab and click “Edit”.

  2. Click a word, or click and drag to select a phrase, in the transcript.

  3. In the popover, type the correction and select Replace. To fix the same error everywhere it appears, open the menu and select Replace all.

  4. To remove text instead, select it, open the menu, and select Delete.

  5. Select Save to apply your changes.

  6. You can view the edited transcript on the Transcript tab. Open the Edit modal to view what has been changed, edited text is shown with an underline, and deleted text is shown with a strikethrough. Hover over either to see the original wording.

Editing transcripts in other languages

If the meeting was held in a language other than English, Trail keeps two versions of the transcript: the original language and the English translation. Use the language toggle at the top of the transcript to switch between them.

  • You can edit either version.

  • If you edit the original-language transcript, the English translation will be marked as out of date. Select Update translation to bring it in line with your changes.

  • Editing the English translation doesn't affect the original.

Good to know

Your original transcript is never lost. Trail keeps the unedited version in PDF, so you always have a complete history of the meeting record to cover compliance.

You can also find all unedited meeting records in the new page, Meeting Attachments, under the Documents tab.

FAQs

Q: Will editing the transcript update my meeting summary?

A: No. An Out of date badge appears on the summary, but it isn't regenerated automatically. To update it, open the template dropdown, and click Regenerate. Regenerating replaces the whole summary, so any manual edits you've made there will be lost.

Q: Can I see what's been changed in a transcript?

A: Yes. Edited text is underlined in the transcript, and deleted text is striked through — hover over it/them to see the original wording. The unedited transcript is preserved and attached to each meeting as PDF.

Q: I edited the original-language transcript. What happens to the English version?

A: Nothing changes automatically. A yellow dot appears on the En toggle to show the English transcript is out of date. Hover over the toggle and click Retranslate to update it. Retranslating replaces the entire English transcript, so any manual corrections you've made there will be lost.

Q: Does editing the transcript change the audio recording?

A: No. The recording is untouched — edits apply to the transcript text only.
