The Register Button is a fantastic tool for your to use when you want a potential client to initiate by registering a new account and beginning a new Fact Find themselves - all of which can happen before you even have your first conversation with them! 🀩

The aim of the Register button/link is so that it allows busy clients to be one step ahead and get the ball rolling with you on the advice process! You also get the benefit of knowing at least some of their overall financial position before engaging with your client further.πŸ‘

In order for this to work successfully, we'll cover what this button does when your client clicks on it, and what you need to have setup and ready on Trail to be notified when a new client registers with you!

Two Ways of Accessing the New Register Link

The benefits of the new Registration page that is different from the other ways is that a brand new client will be able to create a login to the Client Portal and start a Fact Find themselves.

It also means a new Profile (and contact) will be set up in Trail due to your client registering, and a new Advice Opportunity (if your client also begins a Fact Find).

There are 2 ways of accessing the New Register Link:

1. Your unique Client Sign-Up Link

This link is unique to your adviser Trail Account and found here in your Personal Settings - Profile:

Any client registering through this link can start a Fact Find - which in turn creates a new Profile in Trail - and it will be assigned to you as Profile Owner.

2. Your Organisation's Register Button

Trail has a website plugin you can use - the 'Register' button - allowing potential clients to sign up through it.

This button can be edited in your General Settings - Website Plugins - Register Button to suit how you would like it to look, and can be placed anywhere on your website.

This link this button is connected to is different from your personal Client Sign-Up Link, because client may either:

  • Pick which adviser from your organisation to work with

  • Or you may assign one adviser from your team to always recieve these new client registers

This is able to be set in your Settings - User & Teams page - "Assign all new clients to..."

What are the Register Button (or Links) in Trail?

There's two ways a client can register with you:

  • Via your unique Client Sign-Up link which

  • Via the general Register button from your website (or through the calculator widgets which can include this button) which takes them to your company's generic register link. If you have multiple advisers, then the client can choose who to work with.

Getting Notified of New Client Registers

This is the important step for you as the adviser to get right on your Trail account settings in order to be notified when you have a new client register with you!

Using the right New Register

The New Register page

Whether your client is clicking your unique client sign-up link, or the general organisation register link - here are the steps of what happens when they click it:

For clients when they click the Register link/ button

Takes you to the Register page and allows client to fill in basic details such as:

  • Name

  • Email Address

  • Phone Number

  • Set up a password for their Trail client login

You can also turn on User SignUp Captcha as an added security layer to make sure it is a real person registering with you (as opposed to a bot)! Learn more here!

If the Register link is the organisation Register Button

Immediately after they enter their basic details, they are logged in and there is an extra step here of choosing which adviser to work with:

If the client's email matches a Contact already in Trail

If a client enters an email already assigned to a contact in Trail, they can't sign up using this page because their email is already linked to an existing contact. They'll get a message that askes them to request access from you as their adviser or use a different email to create a new account:

What to do in this scenario when your client contacts you:

  • To ensure proper setup of their login, send the Fact Find invitation link to them from their existing profile in Trail.

  • Alternatively if they have logged into Trail before, you can send the login page, where they have to enter their existing email and password. If they have forgotten it, they can always click "Forgot Password?" and follow the prompts to reset it for their existing Trail account.

In Trail for Adviser:

Once a new client registers, in Trail on your adviser end, there will be a NEW profile created with their name as the profile name - and one NEW contact within that profile with the name and email address that they have provided.

The Profile Owner

Logged into the Client Portal to start Fact Find

After this, they are logged into the client portal

They currently will have the option to begin a new:

  • Mortgage Fact Find

  • Insurance Fact Find

  • Kiwisaver Fact Find
