What is Trail's Policy Importer?
The Policy Importer churns the latest policy data you download from supported Insurance Providers and populates the policy data throughout the software. 👍
Using the Policy Importer will alleviate much of the admin of keeping policy information updated in Trail! ✅
How Does it Work?
You take your policy data (find out how to extract this data here) and upload it into the Policy Importer.
The Importer will then update existing policies and create new policies and clients where needed. We have a full breakdown of this process here.
3 Key Ways the Policy Data is Processed:
If the policy already exists in Trail, you will be prompted to either replace or updatthe policy
If the policy does not exist in Trail, it will be created in a client’s profile
If the client also does not exist in Trail, a new profile will be created for them
The result is that Trail is your single source of reliable information about your client's policies. You can then use this information to produce professional policy schedules and ensure you’re never missing a policy anniversary / review.
What are the Supported Insurance Providers Data?
Right now Trail supports data from the following insurers:
AIA example data
AIA/Sovereign example data
AIA/Sovereign V2 example data
Asteron example data
Fidelity Life example data
NIB example data
Partners Life example data
Resolution Life example data
For how to get the correct data for the importer:
It is important to get it in the correct file format (e.g. CSV) otherwise the importer may not work, or you may end up with some missing information. Once you have the data check it against the examples provided in the above article.
Where to Access the Policy Importer
If you provide Insurance Advice through Trail and have Admin permissions, you will be able to find this feature from your Settings page > as "Importer Settings":
Understanding the Importer Settings
Within the Importer Settings, you can choose how your data will be processed. Please see the different options for these settings below:
Replace benefits by default:
If enabled as 'Yes' - when an existing policy is updated through an import, any benefits on that policy will be erased and replaced with the new benefit details from the imported data. The importer is overwriting the existing policy information with the latest data.
If 'No' is selected - the policy information will not be overwritten and the data will stay the same (including the relevant deferments, exclusions or loadings). Any updated data from the import will be an ADD-ON to the policy and logged by date. You can then update/overwrite these benefits manually, if you wish to.
Allow decision per import:
By default - 'Yes' is selected for this option. With this selected you are prompted during each import if you want the benefits to be replaced.
If 'No' is selected - you will not be prompted during the import if you want the benefits to be replaced.
