What is 2 Factor Authentication?

What these apps do is generate a 6-digit code every 30 seconds, which you then enter when logging in to have an extra layer of security.

What will you need to set up 2-Factor authentication

You need an ‘Authenticator’ application on your mobile device.

The preferred applications are either Google Authenticator, or Microsoft Authenticator.

Are you using the Google Authenticator, if so download from here:

Now that you have downloaded your Authenticator App, follow the steps below to complete the set up:

Step 1.

Navigate to the ‘Security Centre’ under your Personal Settings.

Here you can change your password and enable two-factor authentication for your Trail account.

For extra security, you can set up extra security trivia questions (outside of Trail!)

Step 2.

Enable 2-Factor Authentication and begin the process

In Trail, click ‘Enable 2FA’ and you’ll be presented with a window with a large QR Code.

Step 3.

Open up your chosen authentication app on your mobile device to link your Trail Account to the Authenticator App.

Guide for both Google and Microsoft below with options to use either one on apple or android phones:

Google Authenticator:

  1. Open the App and press the ‘+’ at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  2. Select ‘Scan Barcode’, you will be asked to allow the app to use your camera if it’s your first time.

  3. Point your camera at the QR code to scan it on Trail and once it has scanned successfully, it will disappear.

  4. You will now see your 6-digit code and your Trail email address.

Microsoft Authenticator:

  1. Open the App and press the ‘+’ at the top right corner of the screen.

  2. Select ‘Work or school account’, the app will ask for access to your camera if this is your first time.

  3. Point the camera at the QR code to scan it on Trail, once it has successfully scanned, it will disappear.

  4. You will now see a 6-digit code and your Trail email address on the original screen.

Android Users:

Apple iPhone Users:

Step 4. ) Back to Trail - Enter your new 6-digit code under 'Step 2' and press ‘confirm

Once you have successfully entered the code and pressed confirm, this means you have successfully enabled 2FA! Well done!
