Making use of different templates to generate Statement of Advice documents

Previously in Trail, you only were able to create one basic template to generate Statement of Advice documents. With new updates, you can now tailor multiple templates and customize them even further from in your Insurance Settings.

SOA Templates can only be edited by users with "Organisation Admin" access (company wide access) 👍

Creating a New Template

To view or edit your SOA Templates, go to your Settings - Insurance Settings - Statement of Advice Template:

From there, select the green ‘Create New Template’ button. You will be able to add a name and optional description for your template. Saving this will create a new template with a basic structure that can be edited and added to. Any changes will be saved automatically.

Adding & Removing Pages

Once you have created a template, you can add additional custom pages that suit your workflow. At the bottom of your template, click the + Add Page button to add a new page.

Four different pages are available to your template:

  1. Text Page - an empty page that you can add your own text and content to.

  2. Document - you can upload a document here which will be embedded in your SOA for every opportunity.

  3. Document Placeholder - a space for a document to be uploaded on a per-application basis, you will upload this document each time when generating a client's SOA.

  4. Default Pages - these become available to add back in, if you deleted a page from Trail's default template.

Custom pages can be renamed but please note that you are unable to rename default template pages.

To remove an unwanted page, hover over the page you would like to delete and click the bin icon. To revert the template to its original state and remove any adjustments you have made, click the orange Reset to Default button at the bottom right of the page.

Editing Templated Pages

Any individual page in a template can be edited, with the exception of the Title Page and Contents Page.

To edit a page, hover over it and click the Edit button that appears. Depending on the page type, you will have various edit options.

For all custom pages and some default pages, you are able to freely add or remove text, images and tables from the pages using the edit options along the top.

Hiding Sections within a Default page

Some default pages contain sections that cannot be edited or fully deleted, as they are used to generate certain aspects of the Statement of Advice. However, these sections can be hidden by switching the toggle to active (blue) or inactive (grey). Sections that are toggled to active will be visible in the generated SOA document.

Edit in another Settings page

Some pages will contain sections that must be edited in another area of the Settings. The Product Recommendation page, for example, is edited from the Provider Research page instead. In these cases, there will be a button to take you to the appropriate page to edit the settings.


Managing & Deleting Templates

The Manage Templates window can be used to rename, duplicate, and delete templates.

Click over the template's name to Rename it. When you click on the 3-dot 'more options', you will see the options to Duplicate or to Delete.

Deleting a Template

Any template can be deleted, but there must always be at least one template that remains in the system.

Deleting templates that are currently in use will not affect any existing SOA documents, except any file attachments (e.g. for a Document type page) that were part of the template will no longer be accessible.


Using SOA Templates in an Insurance Advice Opportunity

Any user in your organisation will have access to all your created SOA Templates when in an Insurance Advice Opportunity.

To generate the SOA, navigate to the Statement of Advice tab in an insurance application. Then from here you can select the template to apply:

Whenever your reach the SOA section of the Insurance Advice Opportunity for the first time, be mindful of which SOA template you apply! And also check you have the right template applied before beginning intensive edits in the SOA editor 👍 More on this below!

Switching Templates

Switching templates after you have applied a template and started work/ edits within the SOA Editor, will require a RESET of SOA.

The last thing you want is to apply the wrong template at the beginning, start work within the SOA Editor on it, and then realize you have to switch templates! This means resetting the SOA and you lose your changes!
