There may be many instances where you want to categorize clients into certain groups, beyond using Trail's Ranking system. It may be a specific tag to identify a group of clients in your clientbase that you wish to target marketing campaigns, email communications or for reporting purposes.
Trail has the solution for this! It's called Custom Profile tagging, and this exciting feature allows you the flexibility to create and add any tags to a profile to better categorize and group your clientbase.

What is Custom Profile tagging?
Custom Profile tagging is a carefully designed feature and aims to let you quickly and easily identify and group clients based on certain tags. The tags are customisable, so they is flexible to your business needs.
For example, you can easily identify those clients who are only in need of mortgage advice by creating a tag that says Mortgage Only and adding it to each client’s profile:
You could also use tags to identify whether has a certain financial need. The choice is entirely yours!
Profile tags can also be used with Trail's Advanced Filtering tool to build a variety of reports on your client base using your own custom tags! 👍
Creating/Deleting Profile Tags
NOTE: You will need Admin Rights to create/remove tags from your organisation.
It’s easy to create your own customized tags. To get started, simply open Settings and go to Profile Management - Profile Tags. Then, select + Add Profile Tag - this will create a new tag that you can name and select a colour for.
You can also order the tags by clicking the 3 lines on the left of a tag and dragging it to the desired position. The order of your tags in the settings page will define how tags in client profiles are ordered in terms of importance. The most important tags will be at the top of the page while the least important are at the bottom, etc.
To delete a tag, simple select the 3 vertical dots on the right side of the tag and then select Delete, you will be asked to confirm this deletion because deleting a tag in your settings page will also remove the tag from all client profiles!
Adding/Removing Tags from a Client Profile
When viewing a client profile, there will be a tag button to the right of the profile name.
Clicking this button will bring up a modal that displays all of the available tags created for your organisation ✅
You can either search for a specific tag or scroll through the available tags, once you have found the tag you are after, by selecting it you will add it to the current profile you are viewing and it will be displayed at the top of the modal.
To remove a tag from the profile, you can reselect the tag at the top of the modal and it will be removed the from the profile. It will then be listed as one of the available tags to be reselected if needed.
Bulk Adding/Removing Tags from Client Profiles
First you will need to navigate to the Contacts tab, then select to view Profiles. Once there, select a group of profiles that you would like to add or remove tags from, this will bring up a window where you can select a custom tag drop down.
If you select a tag so it has the 'tick' check mark, once you save your changes, the selected tag will be added to all of the selected profiles.
If you deselect a tag so it has no check mark, then the deselected tag will be removed from all of the selected profiles.
If a tag as a 'minus' check mark, this means the the tag is already on 1 or more of the selected profiles but not all of them. If you change it to a 'tick' then it will be added to the remaining profiles. If it is changed to a 'minus', then it will be removed from the profiles that have it.
