Your Provider Research is the backbone of your recommendation π Trail has eliminated a lot of the repetitive aspects of this so you can focus on why your chosen provider is best suited for your client!
In this article you will learn:
What is Provider Research?
How to set up Default Provider Research
How to Craft Personalised Reasonings
What is Provider Research in Trail?
Provider Research must be completed in the third stage of KiwiSaver advice. It is the process of analysing and evaluating why a certain provider is best suited for your client and their situation. Trail supports this by allowing you to have saved default reasoning for why a certain provider is a good choice across any application where they are recommended. In addition, Trail allows you to input personalised reasoning for both the provider as well as the specific recommended fund that applies to only that opportunity. All of this will feed back into the Statement of Advice - your ultimate presentation of advice to your client π
The Provider Research section appears under the Recommendation section for your client. It is best practice to recommend a fund first. After you have recommended a fund, you'll see it appear in the Provider Research section here:
In this example, you can see that the default provider research section is blank. We'll get into how to set this up next π
Setting up Default Provider Research
In order to set up the Default Provider Research for each provider, you'll need access to the Organisation Settings. This lets you access your organisation's KiwiSaver Settings here:
If you do not have access to these settings but believe you should, the Trail Support Team can enable this for you with a director or manager's authorisation β
At the bottom of this page you can enter custom default reasoning for each provider, seen here:
Using the text box, you can create your own custom reasoning to be used as a default. This saves you the time needed for writing this in for each application.
As an example, you could write in something like this:
NZ Funds offers KiwiSaver funds across this risk spectrum, allowing investors to choose the fund that best matches their risk tolerance and investment objectives. It's essential for investors to carefully consider their risk tolerance, investment timeframe, and financial goals when selecting a KiwiSaver fund and to review the fund's investment objectives, strategy, and historical performance before making an investment decision.
Overall, the NZ Funds KiwiSaver Growth Strategy aligns best with clients long-term retirement goals and risk tolerance, offering the potential for attractive returns over time through a diversified portfolio of growth-oriented investments.
Now when you recommend a fund that you've filled out the default reasoning for, it will appear here:
Personalised Provider & Fund Reasonings
These next two sections will be very specific for your client and their situation. Here is where you can detail the specific reasons why a certain provider and fund will be best for their unique needs.
Provider
As an example, you may recommend a certain provider because they take into consideration the same ethical concerns your client shares. Therefore in the Personalised Reasoning for the Provider, you could describe how your client and the provider share the same like-mindedness when it comes to a particular touch point.
Fund
Similarly, you'll do the same under the Fund Research's Personalized Reasoning, though this will be tailored toward the specific fund offered under the provider. If your client has a high risk appetite or is planning to invest for many years, then this is the best place to add in details about an aggressive/growth fund and how this will best suit your client's needs.
