Build your layouts into your workspace's project template to give your whole team the same starting point.
Every project started from a template begins with that template's layout tabs. When your team opens a new site, the map, apps, and numbers they use every day are already arranged the way your company works. Nobody has to set anything up.
Why templates are the best way to share layouts
Project templates reach everyone who starts a project from them, with no extra steps. Use them for the layouts your whole team needs.
My Layouts are layouts you save to your account and share by hand. Use them for optional layouts that only some people need, like a flow-building layout for your computational designers.
Set up the layouts in your template project
A template is a regular Giraffe project that you share as a starting point. Set up its layouts the same way you would in any project.
Open the project you use as your template, or create a new one to become it.
Right-click any layout tab your team won't use and choose Delete.
Add the apps your team needs and arrange the panels to match how your team works.
Right-click each layout tab and choose Rename so its name makes sense to the rest of your team.
Ask your team what they do day to day, and what they want in front of them when they open a project. Build your first layout around that.
Turn the project into a template
Share the project with the people who will use the template. Sharing with your whole workspace is always view only. When you share with a team, choose Can view so nobody changes the template by accident.
Open the Project menu and choose Use as template….
Check For me, one of your teams under For my teams, or For this workspace, then click Done.
The template now shows under Start with a template on Home for everyone you shared it with.
Use as template is available on Team and Enterprise workspaces. Only a workspace admin can make a template for the whole workspace, and only a team admin can make one for a team.
For the rest of the template setup, like usages, flows, and your pro forma, see Create a Template.
What new projects get
A new project copies every layout tab from the template when it's created: each tab's panels, apps, tab position, and tab style.
The layouts are copied, not linked. If you change the template's layouts later, projects that already exist keep the layouts they started with. To bring a template layout into an existing project, click + next to the layout tabs and choose From Template….
Clean up layouts before templating
Since every tab copies over as it is, review your layout tabs before you share the template:
Rename tabs so they make sense outside the context you built them in.
Delete one-off or experimental tabs you don't want new projects to inherit.
