Layers in Spaces

Add contextual data to your Spaces to get the full picture

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Layers in Spaces work exactly the same way as Layers in Projects.

Add data layers from the Layer Library, like zoning maps or market data, or upload your own. Adjust layer visibility and save your changes. Explore and style vector layers in the Data Table.

Spaces also always include a Portfolio Layer by default.

The main difference you'll notice is Spaces don't have drawing layers, because you can't draw in a Space.

Interrogate layers in a Space

Just like in a project, you can right-click any map polygon to see more information or act on it.

  • Select an item from the list to see its details.

  • Copy its coordinates to your clipboard.

  • Or open Google Street View for that location in a new tab.

Use layers to create projects in a Space

Right-click a map polygon to see its details. Select an item from the list, then click Create new project.

The project save screen appears. Name the project, apply a template, and update its properties. Click save to create it.

Content note: confirm this right-click "create a new project from a layer shape" flow still works this way — not independently re-verified for GI6.

Set your default active layer

Left-clicking to interrogate layers only works when the Data Table is open. Choose any vector layer in your Space to have it open in the Data Table by default.

  1. Open Space Info from the main menu.

  2. Select the default layer.

The Space will always open with that layer active in the Data Table.
