Get to your site fast. Search for an address, a city, a landmark, or exact coordinates, and the map moves there and drops a pin. From there you can check the site's context or start a project on it.
Open the map search in a project
In a project, click the Search map button in the context bar at the top of the map. The button looks like a map with a magnifying glass.
OR
Open the Map menu and choose Search the map…. The search box takes the place of the drawing toolbar until you close it.
The search box is ready to type in as soon as it opens. To close the map search, click Close search (the X next to the search box) or press Esc.
Search the map in a Space
In a Space, the map search is always open. It sits in the toolbar on the map, next to the New Project button. Press / to jump into the search box without clicking.
Search for an address, city, or place
Open the map search and type an address, a city, a landmark, or a point of interest. Results appear once you type 3 characters.
Click a result. The map zooms to that location and drops a pin on it.
City, landmark, and point of interest results come from the area showing on the map. Address results can come from anywhere. If the place you want doesn't appear, zoom out and search again.
Search by coordinates
Type a latitude and longitude into the map search to go to an exact point. Use decimal degrees, and separate the two numbers with a comma or a space, like -33.8568, 151.2153. You can enter the numbers in either order.
Open the map search and type the coordinates.
Click the result, labeled Lat: … Lng: …. The map moves to that point and drops a pin on it.
When both numbers could be a latitude, Giraffe shows two results, one for each order. Pick the one that matches your site.
The map search reads decimal degrees only. Convert degrees, minutes, and seconds (like 33°51'S) to decimal degrees before you search.
To copy the coordinates of any point, right-click the map and choose Copy lat, lon to clipboard. Paste them into the map search later to come back to the same spot.
Clear a map search
To clear a map search, click the X inside the search box or press Esc. This removes your search text and the pin. Closing the map search removes the pin too.
Search for a location when you create a project or Space
When you create a new project, the Where's your project? step includes the map search. Search for your site, then pan the map to frame your area.
When you create a new Space, search for its location, or click Drop a pin and then click the map to place it.
Go back to your project
To return to your site after searching somewhere else, click Center on project in the context bar at the top of the map. The button looks like a crosshair. The map zooms back to your project boundary.
OR
Open the Map menu and choose Zoom to Bounds to fit the whole project boundary on screen. Choose Zoom to Center to move to the center of the project and keep your current zoom.
